Hossa to Edmonton?

Hypothetically, if Detroit can not (or will not) resign Hossa then would Edmonton's offer from last year still be on the table?

I have a feeling that Katz is the kind of guy that want's to get a superstar at any risk and if he can't trade for Heatley then he will sign Hossa or maybe Gaborik.

But anyway what are the chances of Hossa coming to Edmonton in this offseason?

I think it is possible but unlikely. He will most likely re-sign with Detroit and take a pay-cut, or sign with a contender like last year.

He's a great player...

I really hope the Oilers don't give him a retirement contract.

Especially since that deal last year lost another year of his prime.

True, true so what length of contract would you want to give him? 6 or 7 max?

To be honest I'm happy getting Jagr for 2 years at a mildly cheap contract then Hossa long term high money.

I don't see the Oilers offering him the same deal they offered him last season. I mean he'll still be rich if signs with the Oilers but he won't be as rich had he signed last season.

Hard to be picky if you're an Oiler fan... If we can't trade for any of Heatley, kessel, Tavares or Vinny L. than I'd say we should go for Hossa, and if we can't even get Hossa we'l get Jagr out of the KHL... Oh how depressing it would be to have Penner as our first line winger next year.....

Oilers don't have the cap room for him.

That's not a big problem, I mean you've got pretty much three months of so to make the cap room before the start of the season.

The Oilers have plenty of options when it comes to making cap space.

We can trade Gilbert/Visnovski/Souray.

It's not like our high paid players have 0 value or anything. There are many ways that we can create cap space.

would not be surprised if the Oilers offer Hossa a contract, but more likely in the 5.5 to 6.5 mill a yr for 5/6 yrs

Really? I figured that if Hossa was only looking for a 5 year contract then he would be looking for closer to 7 mill a season. Unless of course he just wants to win a cup in which case he probably wouldn't come to Edmonton. Except Hossa+Jagr could be beautiful.

Jagr Horcoff Hemsky
Penner Gagner Hossa
O'sullivan Cogliano Brule

Could be some good forwards going forward. If only life were that nice...

Less depressing than having him making 4.25M as our 4th left winger like he was last season.

Haha very true, plus he will improve under the new coaches and will become a legit 1st/2nd line winger IMO

Hossa did say in July that he would most likely be contacting Katz this summer depending on what happened in Detroit. My source is Hossa himself when he was on the Team1260 with his agent Rich Winter. Understandably a year has most likely changed his plan now but if he doesn't re-sign with them, the Oilers should be considered a strong possibility. Especially if Katz is still willing to fork out all that money. I highly doubt it would be the same type of money now that we know the cap is going down but I'm so he'd out bid anyone as long as the bidding war wasn't getting insane.

It isn't exactly about what has transpired since the Hossa fiasco, but what happened on the day(s) of the Hossa fiasco. I don't know why you had to have this explained to you to be honest.

Hossa and his agent, Ritch Winter, had their chance at the richest deal in hockey. They turned it down. They're not going to get that same offer form Edmonton ever again. With the economic climate and speculation of a reduced cap, I doubt any player will get that type of contract offer again. They missed the bus.

Two things;

1. If he waives it then we can trade him

2. We don't want to trade him anyway. He was our most important player when healthy last year. I'd much rather trade Souray anyway (or Gilbert if it came down to that)

It was voided by the trade.

Though Tambellini and Lowe apparently said they'd respect it for at least a year. Not that I want him traded; he's one of the last guys the Oilers can afford to deal in my opinion.
