HFBoards TOP 60 ranking: Defencemen #6

Now that the season and playoffs are over, I thought we'd do an "HFboards ranking" for each position.

So basically, who (of the following) is the best defenceman in the NHL? ie. which Dman would you want on your team for next year only?

Vote away.

Ranking so far

1. Lidstrom
2. Chara
3. Pronger
4. Niedermayer
5. Weber

I just noticed the wording of your OPs. Who is the best defenseman is quite often different from "who would you want on your team next year." I can now understand how the poll results are aligning with the later, rather than the former.

edit: i.e. "Top X0" lists shouldn't involve opinions that might involve age, contract, etc imo. If it's "top" players, it should rank the best, not best value, who best fits the needs of your team, etc.

Oh and Green without a hesitation.

Weber at #5 = fail. Are all the Weber votes going to Green now?

At least Green is better than Weber, though.

Voted Markov (Gonchar and then Keith would be next for me, then Green).

Add Paul Martin.

Same thing in this poll. "On your team, next year only" who's the best right now, without putting stock in performances from 5 years ago. Only putting stock in their recent performances(2 years) and expectations for next year.

mike green. does anyone remember he scored 31 goals this season? more than a PPG and +24 rating. and he is just 23. i'd pick him over any other remaining defenseman right now. the present is bright and the future could be even brighter

Really. But i find thats the norm lately on this board .People on this board seem to vote more based on keeping other players out instead of voting the best players in.In other words if your a Habs player most will vote for another player just in spite. Same goes for if your a leaf player and so on for some of the more hated teams.Alot on this board can't turn their hatred off and be objective on this board. Thats why we see most polls are epic fails.

Did anyone manage to watch Mike Green in the playoffs? It was pathetic. Hell gonchar played with a torn MCL and was much better than green.

Green needs to learn how to play D before he can be ranked this high

Went with Bouwmeester. His defensive game is criminally underrated.

Weber at 5 made me laugh. Suter has played better than him most of the season but Weber having such a point producing first half certainly has vaulted him up.

Voted Keith.
