Sean Avery on the Late Show w/ Jimmy Fallon

Mr. Avery was on the late show tonight and it was a Flyer filled conversation believe it or not.

Avery had mentioned that he was at Bonnaroo for most of the week and that he had ran into a group of Flyers while he was there. He explained how in his last game with Philly he was hit from behind with seconds left by Lupul and that he angrily grabbed/punched the first Flyer he saw when he got up, which happened to be that "clown," Hartnell. He said Lupul was among the group at Bonnaroo and that they talked about the hit and "hugged it out."

Later, Jimmy Fallon challenged Avery to shooting contest...if Jimmy lost he'd donate his suit to Avery's charity and if Avery lost, the philly based Roots (Jimmy's house band) were going to make Sean wear a Flyers jersey. The whole band was waving Flyers' pennants during the competition and it was pretty funny. Fallon was a miserable shot and had to hand over a suit in the end. Thought the whole thing was funny and figured I'd share.

The Roots are too good to be a house band for that show...

I thought they were only doing it for the first week or something.

Avery is the man. Calling Hartnell a clown isn't too far off, look at him lol. I'd rather see Avery being on a talk show promoting the NHL than one of Malkin, Ovechkin, etc that cant even speak a word of english.

You want to see Avery on talk show promoting NHL?

Ovechkin speaks English, Malkin does not.

That was entertaining.

I love that the Roots are there, they are always sticking up for Philly.

oy

malkin's interview in the playoffs after talbot's first 2G game vs DET was classic and funny.

ovechkin is always entertaining.

those two need to be on MORE.

perhaps you should look up some of their interviews before you post about their english skills.

how many languages do you speak? i think their broken english adds to their humor. that could just be me though.

avery can be loved or hated, but the NHL was in the national spotlight more this year than any i can recall since they left espn. that has a lot to do with avery and his starting the season talking about good guys and promoting the bad guys. and then his falling out in dallas. i won't defed any of his actions, but i will say he brought a lot of attention to the NHL.

some of you may claim that kind of attention is not wanted or needed. but we need the support to survive and sadly this crap helps.

that said, would have been much better on connan. fallon stinks!

Yes, the guy is a character. I enjoy him. Ovechkin and Malkin are both a disgrace when they are interviewed at the games. Its embarrasing to the NHL.

His falling out? Get the **** outta here. His comment was absolutely hilarious and it was a FALLING OUT that he got a suspension for it. A sport is supposed to be entertaining, he makes it entertaining.

EDIT: and for the record I speak 3 languages, fluent english, italian and moderate spanish.

So broken English is embarrassing to the NHL, but some punk talking about "sloppy seconds" isn't embarrassing? Gotcha.

This isn't high school. These guys are supposed to be professionals, as in not gossiping about former girlfriends. Avery is a joke.

As did 90% of the population taken from a reasonable sample size

maybe the sloppy seconds comment wasnt the right thing to say but the NHL suspending him for it was a complete and utter joke. I hate Avery but that suspension was a ****ing joke.
So we can have players use sticks at weapons and get suspended 1-3 games or just fined, but making a stupid inappropiate comment gets you banished indefinitley.

Glad the NHL has their ****ing priorities straight

It's also an entertainment industry. Avery plays the role of villain superbly. The NHL screwed that up by not letting him play against Calgary. That game would have drawn viewership and it would have been a hot game. Instead, the NHL kills off any heat the game would have brought. And honestly, I've heard a lot worse comments than sloppy seconds.

hartnell is a "bit of a clown"

too bad Fallon can't even get the puck off the ground, it would've been funny to see Avery pissed off in a flyers jersey

Had a beer with Lupul and Scottie Upshall while I was down at bonnaroo. What I mean by this is I had a beer with them while they flirted with the girl I was with... there were two other guys who I didnt recognize but were clearly hockey players.

Good points here. If you remember the whole Kobe and Shaq feud from a few years ago, the NBA didn't censor it or try to control it. In fact, they decided to put the first Lakers vs. Heat game on national TV on christmas day.

Like or hate Avery, there is absolutely no denying that he makes a hockey game more exciting to watch. I went to two Rangers vs. Islanders game this year; one pre-Avery and one post-Avery (both at the Islanders). The second game was Avery's first game back with the Rangers, and the place was absolutely NUTS. Both teams' fans were so much more into it than the first game.
