Brodeur is a great goalie, but he also played in the dead puck era and played behind an amazing defensive team anchored by future hall of famers Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer.

Lidstrom played with plenty of excellent teams as well but he has been the best defenseman to play the game in the last 20-30 years and I'd be a lot more confident that he could maintain his success elsewhere than Brodeur.

Very close. Both are among the best to ever play their position. Both played on some very good teams and won multiple Cups.

Therefore I voted based on 1995.

Brodeur for me, he's one of the top 4 goalies in NHL history, Lidstrom's good and all but Brodeur's had the better career. Great poll by the way.

This is a really tough one.

I gave Brodeur my vote.

Funny that when I look at the two of them in a vacuum, I think it's very close and might even lean towards Brodeur because of the career accumulative records. But on my "Top 100 of all time" list, I have Lidstrom at #13 and Brodeur at #23 with no inclination to move them.

I think this is a comparison that we'll have a much better idea about once they have both retired and we can look back on their careers.

One thing to keep in mind about Brodeur's career records is that they are partly based on the era he is playing in. Back in Roy's prime, goalies simply did not play 70+ games a year during the regular season. They rarely played 60+
