That is too bad to hear, but not a big deal. He's a fourth line center at best.

So does that mean we won't be able to trade for Heatley? If Colliton's gone the deal's off I imagine

2:1 odds say that "Walter and a 2nd round pick" becomes the new sweetener.

I'd rather have him on the 4th line instead of Nate Thompson

Jeremy "Splenda" Colliton

We hardly knew ye...

...unless there were hypothetical trades to be made.

Walter is a good candidate. Nice pick.

A toss up between him and Thompson, who was picked about 160 picks after him.

This just about closes the books on one of the worst drafts in franchise history.

The Nilsson debacle, forget Parise, what about Bernier immediately after? or Getzlaf?

Three second round picks, all complete busts.

The names Rehak, Blaho, Blanshan, Volkov, Tunik, Chernyk. If you want to torture yourself go and look who was drafted, in most cases almost immediately afterwards.

Such high hopes going into that draft, such disgust looking back on it. You can say that plenty of teams passed on certain guys, but what was going through your mind when the Sharks gave up a first, second and fourth right after we picked Nilsson so they could take Bernier and then the Jersey Genius stepped in and stole Parise from EDM. The later rounds are no better. I rember quite vividly watching Chernyk and Tunik go into 2002 as potnetial first rounders and subsequently fall of the face of the earth on everyone's board except the Isles. The european scouts swing and a miss.
A pass on O'Sullivan because his father is a problem, how about a pass on some guys who suck!

Pretty sure I read Walter isn't getting a qualifying offer, but I could be wrong.

Hey, don't forget about Bruno!

Painfully bad. And worth remembering. 2009 shapes up the same way with all the 2nd rounders. Let's hope it's far better.

Cheers,

I don't think Walter got re-upped by the team. I could be wrong.

NHLNumbers.com has Walter listed as a Group VI UFA.

More than likely means he's gone.

We could have had Parise, O'Sullivan, Weber and David Backes after two rounds. That draft makes me sick, even more sick than 2000 and 2001.

You are rights. Ben Walter is gone.

I like Colliton better than Nate Thompson too. However, I think they can both be quality 4th line centers.

Colliton was never going anywhere with us. Poor kid cause he worked hard, but after this long, he hasn't been able to crack the lineup and we're only getting younger and "HOPEFULLY" more talented...remember i said hopefully

Personally, I was never a fan of Colliton so this news doesn't really bother me at all...good luck kid

I still think the 2003 draft was what set this organization back years. Such an incredibly deep draft with loads of talent. Seabrook, Parise, Brown, Perry, Getzlaf, Richards, Burgeron, et al. The fact that we spent time and money to scout and selected worse than anyone simply using the ISS standings is laughable and sad.

If I remember correctly, the knock on Parise was his size (at 5' 9", I believe) so he drafts Nillson who measures at, well, 5'9". Ahhh, Milbury...ever the rocket scientist. I just thank god that both he and Feltrin are gone.

I hate this topic, whenever it comes up I feel the need to tee off on this organizations prior ineptitude.

EDIT: I'd like to hire Milbury back just so we can fire him again! Im so pissed right now!

Yep, and not only because we had a terrible draft, but also because every other team except the rangers made themselves better with that draft. When everyone else gets better like everyone did with that draft except you, it's going to hurt for a while. We need to really make up for it this year.

And remember all the hype that he could be a 2nd line center. Just shows that we have to make better selections in the draft especially in the first 2 or 3 rounds.

they're clearly freeing up space for Justin Mapletoft's pending return.

I would have liked to see him play more this past season but clearly he was not in the team's plans. 600 man-games lost to injury and a 6'2" center, good on PK, former 2nd rounder doesn't get a chance? They must really feel he's not going to be a player.

I had suspected the same of Comeau with the way he was treated - hopefully he has a big year.

I have a suspicion he'll be moved at the draft. Just a hunch.

Those debating over whether Jeremy Colliton is better than Nate Thompson are splitting hairs and wasting their breath. Really, people? Does it matter?

Besides, Colliton is just leaving to chase his dream of playing with Kenny Jonsson.

2002 Wang gave Milbury an extension for an undisclosed number of years and I believe I remember about that time the scouting budget was reduced significantly.......but good luck finding a source.
