Martin and Mottau are UFA. Bergfors, Clarkson, Eckford, Pelley are RFA.

I believe Clarkson is up next year as well. The year after is Parise and Mottau, and maybe one or two others I'm forgetting at the moment.

Doing a little looking forward to 2010-2011 I've come up with this lineup:
Parise Zajac Langenbrunner
Elias Josefson Tedenby
Rolston Cormier Bergfors
Pandolfo Zubrus Clarkson
PL3

Oduya Martin
White Corrente
Greene Salvador

Brodeur
Frazee

All for the low, low price of 53M
(Martin 5M, Clarkson 1.5M, Bergfors 800K, Tedenby Josefson Cormier 875K)

When that year comes around, I suspect we'll have added another defenseman. One of those forwards will end up getting traded.

In a lot of ways, 2010-2011 is the year we're building for.

This.

I believe Lou has realized that there was no one on the market who would put us over the top this season. Realizing the cap will possibly come down next year, he has opted to save money so he can act on any quality opportunities that come our way without fear of the cap constraints.

He's biding his time, waiting for our recent (and quality) draft picks to be ready so we can really roll out a hungrier, younger, and cap friendly team.

Not the best of news, because Lou will have to resign Martin & Clarkson. The other guys make peanuts. I was hoping White would be coming off the books....Oh well.

2012-2013 is going to be interesting with all the money coming off the books:
Brodeur
Oduya
Rolston
Salvador
White

That's pretty much 20M in one year.

It's not like any of these deals are coming off the books next year.

Of that nearly $10 million for ten players, at least $4 million has to account for signing a minimum salary guy. Then you factor in raises for Martin, Clarkson, Bergfors not to mention long-term deals for Parise and Zajac, Lou HAD to stay out of UFA unless someone's willing to come here on a one-year deal.
Nobody wants to look. People are ignorant.

The same people that ***** about Lou not doing anything, will be the same people having an aneurysm after Martin walks next year because he gave out a terrible, multi-year contract to some guy this year.

can the op clean up the chart?

we don't need to see holik, gionta, madden, havliad on there anymore. They are no long our property.

and Romano was traded, he's not our property anymore either.

I updated my lineup with the Murphy signing (I'm going to assume that he makes the club out of camp), and with my last post being lost in the middle of the 3rd page.

I'm still including my projected Zajac contract, but my prediction could be off after recent events.

bold - denotes signed beyond 09-10 season.
italics - denotes projected signing

Parise (3.125/2) - Zajac (3.0/3) - Langenbrunner (2.8/2)
Rolston (5.063/3) - Elias (6.0/4) - Bergfors (.818/1)
XXX - Zubrus (3.4/4) - Clarkson (.838/1)
Pandolfo (2.5/2) - Pelley (.550/1) - Pikkarainen (.500/1)
Leblond (.500/2)

11 forwards - $29,309,333
8 forwards - $25,888,000

Oduya (3.5/3) - Martin (3.833/1)
White (3.0/3) - Mottau (.763/1)
Salvador (2.9/3) - Murphy (.500/1)
Greene (.738/2)

7 defensemen - $15,233,333
4 defensemen - $10,137,500

Brodeur (5.2/3)
Danis (.500/1)

2 goaltender - $5,700,000
1 goaltender - $5,200,000

Total (09-10) - $50,242,666 - 20 players
Total (10-11) - $41,225,500 - 13 players

Cap Room (09-10) - $6,557,334 for 1 player
Cap Room (10-11) - $9,774,500 for 8 players*
*projected $51M cap

Don't forget to add Ben Walter to the possible call-ups.

At this point, I think Zubrus/Pandolfo would get traded. That could leave up..5.7 millions freed,

I doubt either will, we need Zubrus and no one wants Pandolfo. The only player that I think might be moved is Salvador, we have alot of depth on D with the young guys coming up

Try capgeek.com

http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=20

It has also cool features such as the buyout calculator and the salary cap calculator.

You can plug in salary cap figures for potential rosters.

So we have 7 million to sign 2 players...Lang, Zubov, maybe even Sundin? I think we would be dumb not to add one of those players if we could, and if we can't get those guys then sign some other cheap veterans like Shanahan to play on the bottom lines. I'd just hate to see 7 million not even being used.

I can not figure out why we let him go to the Islanders. He may have been the most exciting player in our system. NYI signed him to a 3 year NHL entry level contract right away. I actually watched the scrimmage over the weekend, Romano and Baily looked faster, smarter more aggresive then everyone. Lou let a diamond in the rough go...He must of been worth alot to the Isles, a 4 year player in Ben Walter and a 2012 draft pick is a hell of alot for a 21 year OHL Star...
