I can not figure out why we let him go to the Islanders. He may have been the most exciting player in our system. NYI signed him to a 3 year NHL entry level contract right away. I actually watched the scrimmage over the weekend, Romano and Baily looked faster, smarter more aggresive then everyone. Lou let a diamond in the rough go...He must of been worth alot to the Isles, a 4 year player in Ben Walter and a 2012 draft pick is a hell of alot for a 21 year OHL Star...

It still amazes me how effortless he looks when he does that. I can't even make it look that easy on NHL 09.

We didn't let him go to the Isles, we just let him go.

And as fast as he was I think what did him in for us was his attitude and all.

He also becomes the captain of every team he's on. When he was in Lowell, the CPU made him captain, when he came up to NJ the same thing happened. When he signed with the Rags, he became their captain too.

I updated my lineup with the Murphy signing (I'm going to assume that he makes the club out of camp), and with my last post being lost in the middle of the 3rd page.

I'm still including my projected Zajac contract, but my prediction could be off after recent events.

bold - denotes signed beyond 09-10 season.
italics - denotes projected signing

Parise (3.125/2) - Zajac (3.888/4) - Langenbrunner (2.8/2)
Rolston (5.063/3) - Elias (6.0/4) - Bergfors (.818/1)
XXX - Zubrus (3.4/4) - Clarkson (.838/1)
Pandolfo (2.5/2) - Pelley (.550/1) - Pikkarainen (.500/1)
Leblond (.500/2)

12 forwards - $30,196,833
8 forwards - $26,775,500

Oduya (3.5/3) - Martin (3.833/1)
Salvador (2.9/3) - XXX
White (3.0/3) - Mottau (.763/1)
Greene (.738/2)

7 defensemen - $14,733,333
4 defensemen - $10,137,500

Brodeur (5.2/3)
Danis (.500/1)

2 goaltender - $5,700,000
1 goaltender - $5,200,000

Total (09-10) - $50,630,166 - 21 players
Total (10-11) - $42,113,000 - 13 players

Cap Room (09-10) - $6,169,834 for 1 player

Having him off the books would make me breath a lot easier when it comes to cap space for next year.

We have tons of cap space this year which we are not going to use, so we may as well keep Pando around. Additionally, it's not like any of our prospects are banging the door down. Once 2010-11's cap figure comes out then Lou will probably be more inclined to take a look at buying him out or sending him to Lowell for the '10-'11 season.

I trust Pando way more than any of the players we could bring up RIGHT NOW. Obviously, that will probably change in a year, but no sense throwing out the baby with the bathwater at this point.

I trust Pandolfo to be offensively a detriment and defensively a penalty killer. But that's all he is - a penalty killer. Because that's all he can do, kill penalties. He could be out on the powerplay and he'd still fall into the passive defensive box.

I am not saying I don't agree with you. All I am saying is that there is no way he his not going to be on the team all year.

He will end up playing in his 800th game as a Devil this year, which I think is amazing. Lou rewarded him with a nice contract, which will most certainly be his last. He will play on the 4th line and kill penalties for 09-10 and then next summer maybe Lou will buy him out, or send him to Lowell where he can "retire".

Lou's actions this summer tell me he has no interest in getting Pando's cap hit off the books for 09-10. Let's just hope that Jacques leaves him where he belongs, and I think he will.

If the cap really goes down by $5mm or more next year, and Pandolfo plays 09-10 the same as 08-09, he won't be on the books. He won't make the team... financial realities. He'll be in Lowell.

He belongs in the press box. I understand our situation and we're stuck with him for the time being, but he brings NOTHING to the table.

Prove me wrong, Pando.

I guess I am just saying that I don't quite understand why you are railing against Pando this hard. I mean, he's (hopefully) going to be on the 4th line and kill penalties. That's it. So, unless Lemaire pulls a B.S. (no, not high-tailing it to Western Canada), I don't really see what the issue is.

Also, it's not like his salary is preventing us from signing anyone. Mainly because we haven't signed anyone, and we aren't going to, either. And until proven otherwise, he is more perfectly suited to the LW on the 4th line on this team than any of our prospects.

If either of these things weren't true, I would agree with you more completely, I guess you could say.

Post 88 of my cap summary has been updated. Turns out I was not that accurate on the Zajac signing, but nevertheless turns out to be an OK deal.

I also took Murphy off after Lou's comments that he's expected to play in Lowell but get a shot at the NHL in camp.

For next year though, interesting to note that we will have to fill 9 roster spots (based on a 22 man roster) with $8,887,000 (based on a $51M cap). Which means that we can spend $987,444 on each player - which is miniscule when factoring in that we have to sign Paul Martin in the $5M range.

You have to think two things, though. First is that we're not going to have every one of our bigger salaries when it comes time to start adding players, and second is that we're going to have enough youth filling spots that a number of cheap contracts in the $750,000-$1M range are going to be on the books.

Which one of our big contracts is coming off the books? Besides Pandolfo, I don't see one that will come off.
