All your play-making center (not named SG, DB, VLC) are belong to Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings #1 need is a play-making center that can take pressure/checking off of Kopitar. It is not a scoring left wing.

Everyone has seen the threads that propose VLC, Briere, or Gomez in numerous variations. Let's talk about your centers that might be flying slightly under the radar, but can definitely play on the top 2 lines in the future. The Kings have Jarret Stoll and Michael Handzus, they are not interested in your third line material.

The Kings have a few things to offer;
Picks:
5th overall
13 other picks in 2009.

Roster Players from 2008/2009: (slim pickings)
Jack Johnson (RFA, unsigned)
Alexander Frolov (2.something, UFA after this year)
Kyle Quincey (850K I believe, RFA after this year)
Michael Handzus (4mX2yrs)
Davis Drewiskie
Teddy Purcell

Prospects:
Oscar Moller
Thomas Hickey
Slava Voynov
Loktionov
Robert Czarnik
Martin Jones
Brian Boyle (hehe)
Alec Martinez
Colton Teubert

Anyone else, (Brown, Doughty, Kopi, JW, Bernier, Quick, Simmonds, etc) are off the table at this point. Losing any of those forwards might continue to negate the gaining of a center (so would losing Frolov, but it seems plausible he'd be the first to go). Doughty is obviously not going anywhere, for any player not named Malkin/Ovechkin etc, and we need to retain the two young goaltenders so they can continue slugging it out. Greene isn't likely to be traded because he was just locked up long term last year and is recognized to be part of the core going forward. Quincey is ridiculously cheap on his deal presently and is an RFA after this season, so while he's on the rostered players list, he isnt likely to be moved. I believe dean would move Zus before he'd move Stoll.

Fire away with your offerings. Again, no DB, SG, or VLC's, please.

Are you looking for a young guy? Or are ya kinda jumping to "lets make the playoffs mode" and thinking of a vet?

Pavol Demitra may become available out of Vancouver if we're too tight up against the cap. In 69 games last season he had 20 goals and 33 assists, he's 34 years old, and has 1 year left on his contract at 4mil cap hit.

Def a top play maker... Ehh?

I think the Flyers would give you Daniel Briere.

Take Frolov off the list. You get a center to play with him.

No thanks to Briere. Contract is a killer.

Edit to add Colton Teubert.

I think the ideal guy is 24-28, has shown some promise, but not exactly fulfilled it entirely. can distribute the puck pretty well and play all three zones competently. the player doesn't have to be a superstar now, or even necessarily in the making, just someone who has shown a little fire, responsibility, and some clever play with the puck in the offensive zone.

Shawn Horcoff can pass!

He can also backcheck

All to you at the economical 5.5 x 6 years

He's also a poor excuse for a #1 center

Horcoff, with 53pts in 80 games on that deal doesn't work, at all.

and you'd have to take Briere and Carle with Giroux

See, this is the kind of thing I was talking about.

Take a look at the list and tell me what piques your interest.

and King Jordan, maybe you should read the OP a little more closely.

Since when did Giroux become Evgeni Malkin?

It doesn't matter. The whole response was a joke just to get you to understand that beggars can't be choosers. If the Kings want a young stand-out playmaking center they're going to have to seriously overpay. Most of the players you'd want aren't available.

If you want a LEGITIMATE top line center right now it's going to have to be someone that another team doesn't want anymore. You can probably get something out of it as well instead of sending much back.

Back to the point though...Giroux is not on the table.

I disagree with your premise. I think the most immediate need is a winger. You have Handzus who has a NMC which pretty much negates the possibility of trading him unless he wants to be moved. I'm not sure that is a route that DL would want to go anyways for a variety of reasons. That leaves Jarret Stoll as the only real option to be moved to clear room for another center. He is younger and I'm sure DL would move him for the right player but that would mean the other team involved would have to want him back. That makes the scenario even more unlikely. I think you go looking for a center when Handzus contract is up in 2 years. As much as I'd like an upgrade in the position, I don't see it happening for 2 years. That is just my opinion.

The younger the better. I don't think the Kings would be interested in Demitra Part Deux.

Names that spring to mind for me are Jordan Staal, Bergeron, Spezza, Derrick Roy (maybe), Zajac (I know he wouldn't be cheap), Dubinsky, and Filppula.

Several probably aren't available, but that's a list I would start with.
