Having come from within the Pens Organization Fletcher be pretty familiar with both guys.

On April 11, 2009, Ben Lovejoy received the 2nd team AHL All-Star award along with Most Valuable Defenseman. Lovejoy ended the regular 2008–09 campaign leading the entire AHL with a Plus/Minus rating of 42

No mention made of what the Wild might be offering.

He always comes down the left side of the ice and takes a stupid slapshot that is fast but almost never goes in. That is his only move and works about 5% of the time if that. I would love to see dupuis gone.
Considering that he has had 10 goals or more every year since 2001, I suppose you can consider that pretty much a given. For a bottom six player who is defensively responsible and a good pk'er that is even quite nice.
The problem with Dupuis is that he is a luxury we cannot afford on the 4th line considering that we have one of the best third lines in the league with Staal, Kennedy and Cooke.

He will never be a special player and is of course pretty much a dime a dozen. But he is a good role player with two Stanley Cup final runs on the trot on his resume and now a ring too. Quite a number of teams could do worse that having him on, and I imagine he will be moved for a pick at the draft. Any pick will do considering that we need the cap space more than the compensation.

1.4 million dollars for a guy that at 600k can do the job just as well if not better. The team needs to be grittier and having an overpaid soft 4th liner is not a good way of that. Theres a reason why Minnesota cringes at wanting him back, they know what he is.

Lovejoy is extremely overrated by pens fans. I honestly doubt he will amount to anything in the NHL. A journeyman/waiver wire Dman will provide whatever he does at a lesser cost.

So yeah Minnesota would be doing us a huge favor, if we can get anything out of getting rid of Dupuis that would be huge otherwise don't be suprised if you see him riding the waivers later in the season. When we have only 6 million or so to spend on 3 top 6 wingers his 1.4 million dollar salary does matter a lot.
He's better than you think

Before Crosby
2001–02 Minnesota Wild NHL 76 Games Played, 15 Goals

2002–03 Minnesota Wild NHL 80 Games Played, 20 Goals

2003–04 Minnesota Wild NHL 59 Games Played, 11 Goals

2005–06 Minnesota Wild NHL 67 Games Played, 10 Goals

2006–07 MIN/NYR/ATL NHL 71 Games Played, 14 Goals

Sure, he's flawed, but he scores his 10-20 goals + kills penalties etc. 1.4 is not too much for that type of player.

Craig Adams may be better on the PK, but Dupuis is the better all around player. He's been more productive over their careers.

I could see this happening. As for what coming the other way? Tough call. Could be a pick to give us cap space for Pitt to resign Scuderi. A player? maybe Nolan if we can work the space a bit more.
He is a overpaid one especially for a team like the Pens but he is exactly that. Fast, hard working, physical, and a good PKer. Pens fans act like he is horrible because MT insisted on putting him with Sid so he could miss open net chances on a regular basis.

Hey Mr.Vain, my post was for the benefit of anyone who thought, like the poster I was responding to, that Dupuis was some sort of white elephant. He's not.

If we want a "very fast, has a good work ethic, he's a good PKer, he can pop in 10+ goals and 20+ points a season" guy, we will re-sign our own Veilleux.

We already have plenty of guys in the pipeline who can do what Dupius does for 1/3 the price.

Don't pretend that having his name on the Stanley Cup magically makes him a better player.
Having guys who've been there and know what it takes to win is imperative for a Cup contender. Whether they have similar traits and production to a less experienced player really isn't the point.

Why do you think the Pens made it a priority to get guys like Kunitz and Fedotenko?

The rumor originated with the Pittsburgh sports radio talk show host Mark Madden. There is no website to link. He has many ties to the organization and I wouldn't be surprised if it has some inkling of truth as the trade kind of makes sense and I don't think he'd just make up a random rumor like this. This trade just could've been discussed in the front office, but turned down by either party so we'll never know if it could have been true or not.
