The Phoenix Coyotes may be in bankruptcy but they continue to do business.
Phoenix has traded centre Steve Reinprecht to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Stefan Meyer.
The Coyotes have also signed forward Petr Prucha to a two-year deal.
Reinprecht, meanwhile, has signed a three-year deal with the Panthers.
Reinprecht's three-year deal has a cap hit of $2.050 million. He will get $1.8 million in the first year and $2.175 million in each of the following two years.
I don't know anything about Meyer. Looks to me like he's a plug for an AHL hole that will open when Porter or someone else gets promoted. But I think Florida will like Reino - good to hear that he's getting a long-term deal. He's a great team guy and I wish him well.
pretty obvious that he was going to walk. we have 412 centers in the system as it is, he was getting pushed down the ladder when he's really a very capable 2nd line center. florida is a really good fit for him.
at least we got something for him, albeit not much.
good luck to reino. such an undervalued, under-appreciated and underrated player.
Prucha was really the only RFA I wanted us to keep but worried we might not. I guess it's better to get something out of UFA Reinprecht than nothing. I think he'll do well in Florida. I like seeing us get an unexpected start to preparing for next season. Feels good.
Also Prucha played few enough game that year that he was eligible to receive a 2-way qualifying offer. So DM had some negotiation leverage in exchange for a 1-way deal.
$1.1M a year for Prucha was either in the TSN article or on the trade rumors board here. That's a bit more than I would have wanted, but it's reasonable, especially if he can return to 20 goal form at a minimum.
It's good to see moves being made, I like our potential next season, offensively we should put a lot more pucks in the net, and with our team speed, we could create a lot of fastbreaks. Glad to see Prucha resigned, and I wish Rhino the best of luck in Florida.
1.1 would be a great bargain if that's true seeing as how I expected him to get just over 2 mill. I mean, if we can pay Fedoruk almost 2 mill it should be fair to give Prucha more than that. At the same time, us paying Fedoruk almost 2 mill could be a reasonable excuse as to why we wouldn't be able to give Prucha a raise. Regardless, it seems like Maloney certainly hasn't overpaid.
I like the Prucha re-signing and the Reinprecht trade and I also like how it kinda shows Ballsillie who's in charge! Good move considering how Reinprecht was a FA anyways and Maloney still got something for him.
