Still that team would suck ass

None of those defenseman can actually play good positional DEFENSE!

Forward depth after the 1st line really really blows

This team would barely make the playoffs

I can see this team contending to draft Taylor Hall in 2010...

Oh wait! We'd trade that draft pick to Philly

The overpayement to get Vinny is horrible. Markov and his excellent contract alone is worth more than Lecavalier and his contract. I doubt Philly trades VanRiemsdyk for this package, let alone add Briere to it (the only asset with real worth there is the 1st in 2010). Why would we want Phaneuf? Why would Calgary trade him?

Who the hell is Pelletier? You really think Laperriere can be useful in 3 years? Betts is awful. DAgostini isn't ready to be on the 2nd line, especially not paired with an average winger and an unknown guy. Higgins suck as a center, can't win faceoffs to save his life. What are you thinking to have Weber and O'Byrne, two rookies that aren't exactly defensive light bulbs on the same pairing?

This team is worse than the one we had last year, except now we'd lose two 1st draft picks. We lose our no1 defensemen, replace him with a still unreliable Phaneuf (which we pair with an aging offensive D, while Phaneuf himself has trouble playing defense) and then we're stuck with the suckiest 2nd line in the NHL.

That team isn't cap compliant either. Briere, Phaneuf and Lecavalier have absurd contracts that would handcuff us for a decade. And then we still have overpaid Hamrlik and Beauchemin probably won't go under 4 or 4.5m too.

Trading the whole team for few players and especially, trading all the future... good way to fix a team.

And also.. Wtf on the proposal for Lecavalier!
You would trade Markov, Pacioretty, Plekanec(who's RFA so its likely a sure lock), Mcdonaugh or Subban and our 1st pick 2009.

Thank god you're not Montreal's General Manager! Our team would be horrible!

Your proposed Habs squad is horrible defensively and would never fit under the cap. I like the idea of signing Betts and Laperriere, though... we lack that type of guy.

Well, that's around what it would take to get him. Tampa hasn't acknowledged any need to deal Lecavalier, and thus isn't dealing from a position of weakness like Ottawa is with Heatley; furthermore, the league knows how desperate Montreal is to get a star-calibre player - especially a French one - and will ask for more in a trade as a result.

I guess he is talking about Pascal Pelletier, a player that never been draft and played 13 games in the NHL in the past 2 years, having impressive stats... 0g 0a 0pts -6 15 shots. Already 26 years old.
Will never be more than a 3rd liner, and will probably be a AHL top scorers for years to come.

I guess he have all the tools to be a perfect 2nd liner in Montreal

That's what i'd like to know. And if we have briere... why not use him as center instead of higgins. God the lines suck.

edit: And holy overpayment for lecavalier, batman!

Seriously, straight up, I take Markov over Lecavalier. Nevermind Markov plus two of our top 3 prospects (3 out of 4 if you count our 2009 pick), and Plekanec's rights (not very valuable). HUGE OVERPAYMENT!!

If Lecavalier costs even close to that much, I don't want him.

There's no way that much talent goes back the other way for Lecavalier, especially talent coming from within the organization. Gainey rarely ever deals players he drafted.

Markov says hi.

He can actually lead a team of bums to the playoffs, unlike Lecavalier, and his team can't even win a damn game without him.

EDIT: I realize nobody could have led that Tampa team to the playoffs.

He played 3 games in the playoffs.

Your defense really does suck.

Who is Pelletier ?

Briere is 6.5 mill, Lecavalier is 7.7 Tanguay would be at the very least 5.5 Right there you have 19,7

Beauchemin at 5 (would probably cost that), with Phaneuf at 6.5 is 11.5 mill. 31 mill in 5 players.

Schneider at 3.5, Laraque at 1.5, Hammer at 5.5, 10.5, so a total of 41.5 mill.

Price is 2.2, O'bryne and Weber, we'll say are 1.5, Legace would be at the very least 1 mill. Lapierre0.7, Lats, 1.3, Dags, 0.750. So 7.45 there for a grand total of 49 mill (rounding numbers)

Still have that Pelletier guy, Betts, Lapierrere, Higgins and Chelios. Between Higgins and Lapierrere there's about 3.5-4 mill. Cheli, going form this year's salary would probably get the same at 750k. Betts will probably get a little raise to 700k. and then there,s that Pelletier guy.

So, all in all, 54.4 mill+ whatever that Pelletier guy gets for a crappy defense and very little offense. Van Riemsdyk too and with bonuses he'll probably be over a mill, maybe like Price and at 2.2.

Pretty terrible team you've assembled, imo.

I second this, you've basically traded the farm for Lecavalier, Phaneuf and Briere. And you can't win the Stanley Cup with only three good pla... oh.... ummm... still a terrible idea.
