Can't say i'm surprised.

I'll admit that I wanted Tippett as a first choice... but i'll gladly take B. Sutter. I know that a lot of people will start crying of nepotism, but let's look at it this way: If this guy's last name was White or Smith or Burns would we have an issue with this hire? The guy has a pedigree as a successful coach (I'm not sure how he can be blamed for that NJ choke job by the players this year).

More importantly, I can't see how anybody says that this isn't a massive upgrade over Keenan or Playfair (who I actually liked). No more excuses from the core players... now you have a coach in place. Time to put up.

Here's hoping that Laviolette hiring is true. Have we confirmed that multiple people heard it on the Fan 960.. or was it just one person?

I honestly thoguht he was outcoached in two consecutive playoff series. Especially by Paul Maurice this past April.
Maybe he'll do better in Calgary.

Is this the same Fan 960 that said that Heatley to Calgary was pretty much a done deal?

'Dunno... nepotism can be bad ass. Look at the Oilers having stuck with their man (men?) - and they weren't blood family.

I'm surprised at this. Suppose the Flames get off to a 5-15 start (some can only hope ). How do you fire your brother?

It's an open invitation for accusations of being biased, and then the ship starts to rock.

Of course, if the Flames come out strong and stay that way, it's all moot.

The coach won't be held accountable if the Flames falter again, because it clearly wouldn't have been his fault. 3 coaches in 4 years won't happen, the core will be broken up (rightfully so if they fail again) before Brent gets fired.

Fair enough.

But it's still tough to hold your coach accountable for overall performance (more so lack of) when you're out shooting gophers with him on weekends.

And the media is still always liable to question the objectivity held by the GM if it's his younger brother's job that he's assessing. Could be an issue, might not be.

Just sayin'...

seems CGY remembers it... did anyone else actually hear this about Laviolette? or is this just another thing Andy made up like the Heatley rumor that absolutely no one else heard?

Until the league starts honoring legally binding contracts it looks like there won't be any compensation going to the Devils and that's really too bad. People can sign contracts and walk away when they want. That says it all...

If I were Lou I'd be wanting to make an extremely lop-sided trade with Calgary right now. I wonder who Calgary wants off the Trenton roster.

This is actually why Darryl didn't hire Brent the first time around, he thought it would be too tough to have a brother in a position where he may be forced to fire him.

Now however, I think Darryl realizes that he's built this team for a Sutter, so he might as well hire one. Chances are if it doesn't work out Ken King might be the one doing the firing.

With all of these Sutter hirings I find my asking: Why doesn't the family just buy the team?

I haven't heard anything on any rumours involving Laviolette coming in as an associate coach. Although I hope that's the case.

Congrats on getting a big fraud as your coach. His first round exits were really impressive with NJ.

Prepare to have a solid regular season and maybe one or two wins in the first round next year with him as your coach.

Man, you Devils fans sure do whine and moan a lot for losing such a sucky coach and a 'big fraud' (and I'm saying this as somebody who actually respects the Devils fanbase the majority of the time).

As for what to expect... hell I don't see how this can possibly not be a massive upgrade over what Keenan was last year. I don't think you'll find too many Flames fans arguing over this potential hire.

Well thank you. Don't worry were use to first round exits.

There is sure alot of crying over this hiring by Devil fans. Over reacting a little don"t you think?

Good signing and looking forward to the next season.

Good. Keenan's inability to get our offensive players away from Seabrook and Keith hurt us in the Chicago series.
