For what its worth, Auld is going to Columbus for Russell (Hockeybuzz rumor). And if this is true, then the Sens are getting another small Dman with some puck moving upside. Sounds like any or all of Bell, Picard, Smith are on their way out.
It's from Sensbuzz just for the record, who knows how credible he is, but all 3 of them are on their way out, Bell is a UFA (according to NHLSCAP), Picard will most likely be traded, and Smith will be waived/retires.
would you deal Picard for a backup goalie to Leclaire?
why would Columbus deal their best young dman, and someone who showed signs of taking big steps in his game last year, for a backup goalie to Mason, who's overpaid to fill the backup position as it is, and is a season from UFA?
Auld's worth a mid-round draft pick right now... and with over a dozen backups available in FA (Garon, Niittymaki, Gerber, Conklin, Labarbera, Johnson, Sanford, Raycroft, Boucher, Clemmensen, Weekes, Denis, Danis, etc), I doubt any team even gives up a mid round pick for a $1mill backup right now.
Russel is a 22 YO dman, still signed on his ELC, showing solid development and already playing fairly well at the NHL level... he's worth *significantly* more than Auld is.
Well we already have Auld and Elliot. But if we didn't then I would trade Picard for a backup if it was the right guy. If Conklin was signed then I would do Picard straight up for him yes.
But it doesn't matter because I see your point, Kris Rusell has way more value then Auld.
You mean a No name for a no name? I think is fair value... You guys overate Raymond so much, he's crap, always get knocked down, doesn't know how to pass...
so you're saying that he's fair value for a backup goalie (to play behind Luongo no less) and a soon to be UFA depth dman, who wouldn't even make the Canucks lineup last year?
I think Raymond is starting to get more underrated than overrated on these boards... he's still just a 23 YO player, still on his ELC, and has shown solid signs of development, and did play his best hockey of the season in the playoffs! He adjusted well to playing in a bottom 6 role last year and contributed on the PK as well... in the playoffs he was top 5 on the team in hits as well, stepping up his whole game during the playoffs.
Raymond's value might not be that high right now, but it's certainly higher than Bell and Auld, and his value to the Canucks is probably higher than his market value right now, given his contract, versatility and the development he's shown during the past year.
Umm...this is a terrible proposal. Firstly, Raymond is by far the best player in the trade. Secondly, why do we have any use for Auld? Thirdly, wasn't Brendan Bell on waivers around the trade deadline?
