Colton Orr to the Panthers on July 1?

Quote:
The Rangers, by the way, have made no effort to re-sign Colton Orr, who will have no trouble at all scoring a multi-year deal within hours of the opening of the market. We're told Florida is keenly interested in the heavyweight.

Doesn't shock me. I figured he would be told to walk.

Call me crazy but I actually prefer hockey players who can play hockey. If thats the case the Leafs should be all about him too.

Yeah I don't really know why people like Larry Brooks are acting like Orr is a sought after commodity. Yeah he's a good fighter, and has improved his game so that he's not a complete liability...but he's still mainly just in the lineup to fight, and he's a little too slow still to be a great hitter

I like the guy but not terribly worried about the Rangers losing him. Hope he does well though

It's the case, we're very soft and call me CRAZY, but I'm tired of Booth, Frolik, and Vokoun to name a few) getting run over all the time.

I'm on my knees praying that it is, cause I like guys who can protecct their teammates. There's a reason Pittsburgh's had Cairns, Roy, Laraque, and now Godard to protect their players. Washington with Brashear.

Id love Orr on the Sabres, better than dressing Peters.

His scoring output improved 250% from last year to this year, at this rate he'll be...be a 195 point getter in four years!

I can tell you first hand, your gritty players can't do anything about protecting your soft players if the latter don't know how to be abit aggresive and physical.

I'll agree to a point, having a guy who can still fight and somewhat allows the latter to open their play a bit more.

I'm sorry, but the threat of Orr punching your face inside-out is a pretty big detriment to taking ridiculous runs. Will they still get beat up? Of course. But there's a reason why enforcers are considered the policemen of the game.

Plus Orr isn't the type of guy to only fight heavyweights, he'll go after the other team's skilled players if no one will drop the mitts with him.

Colton Orr is not exactly Wayne Gretzky, but he's not completely worthless. He makes simple but smart plays and is good at protecting the puck in the corners. he won't be a liability, rarely takes dumb penalties, and for the small amount of money he'll want he's worth it given how good of a fighter he is.

With the instigator penalty in place, enforcers are basically rendered useless. If you want to win the game and not spend the rest of the period in the penalty box, that is.
