I think it's a great team in SJ. Look what they did in the post season. But, you are really going blame him for the team not getting past the first round? That doesn't make much sense.

None of the options really fit for me. They're moving in the right direction but no guarantee yet. Sucking for a few years and stock piling picks is the easy part, the hard part is turning around the losing culture into a winning locker room. It's nice having young kids that are full of potential, but eventually they do level off, sometimes sooner than expected. For example, if you compare LA's young top line of Frolov-Kopitar-Brown to Nashville's veteran Sullivan-Arnott-Dumont, no one would consider swapping LA's players for Nashville's, but over the past few seasons, and likely next, the Pred's trio is just plain better.

Some prospect rich teams turn it around, others keep failing, and some get better but never quite good enough. It's hard to say which will do what until it actually happens. Even if a team does turn it around, then its a whole new ball game to become a legit player. Being a successful rebuild teams means your kids lived up to the billing, which means very quickly they're going to require adequate salaries limiting your cap flexibility. Plus with success now you're drafting much later and less often, making it much harder to develop home grown talent to fill wholes cheaply. Chicago's going to be a great example of this.

They won't ever be any good until they add a few scorers and a veteran d-man.

They have Doughty, Frolov, Kopitar, Brown, and MAYBE Williams but I doubt that will be anywhere as good as he was back in 05-06. Four good players can't carry a team full of prospects/scrubs. LA fans can brag about their pipeline all they want but it doesn't matter until they get some established players. They will miss the playoffs every year until they add some more pieces. They need some gamebreakers NOW.

Brown barely has the scoring ability of a second liner
Frolov is arguably not even a first line scorer
Williams has gone downhill every season since the lockout. I doubt he scores more than third line numbers next season.
Kopitar is still a lot of untapped potential. He is one of the most talented C's in the league, but only an average first line player at best right now.
Stoll is a third liner
Handuz is a third liner

They DEFINITELY need offense over anything else.

Hopefully one of the two can pull it off.

To tell the truth they've been tha laughing stock of the NHL in the last couple of years, but with a system loaded with young talents soon they will be a force in the League, if they'll manage to keep the core together.

Uhhhh, In case you didn't know like the only guys he picked was Cheechoo and Marleau. The rest of the guys are gone. His team did make it past the 2nd round. Then it was blown up half a season after he was gone.

I agree the guy is a good gm though.

After their mediocre past and prospect stockpiling, I'd say they should be due for some sunny years.

Sooner rather than later.
