Ticket

So I got a ticket tonight for sitting on a bench that was in a park... in the west Island. Come on West Island. You suck. My legs hurt. Anyways. The public security gave me a ticket and they mixed up my middle name and first name on the ticket (for being in the park after 10).

Can I contest it because they mixed up my names? If so. That would be awesome.

Thanks guys. You're the best.

Mitch

No but seriously...My friend once got a parking ticket and the guy who wrote the ticket made a mistake in the car model (I think wrote Tercel instead of Corolla). He appealed and won. It's a similar situation so I don't know, give it a try.

Better pay up before the Einsatzgruppen show up with their comrades from the Gestapo.

You won't win most likely. The guy made the mistake in good intent so the judge will still probably accept it.

WTF is the ticket for and what are the penalties?

You're not allowed in any public park past 10. That law has been there for a while now, if i'm not mistaken. Kinda wild eh? I've been in parks until way past midnight-early morningish, never had a problem. Then again i live in Montreal Nord and cops don't go looking for trouble all that much here.

We're probably the most freethinking part of north-america but some laws here still boggle the mind.

Now the question becomes, was there a cop in the cop car?

I agree it's ridiculous, but then, it's probably only a dissuasive precaution for thugs to break up stuff...

I don't know, perhaps Mitch looks like a thug...

I've been in Switzerland all summer and I was stunned to see people drinking by the water , public streets parks and in front of the soccer stadium at any time . I hear it's like this in most of Europe. I guess it's maybe a right we LOST in QC because of to much bad behavior...

Beaconsfield... and a 144$ fine. Thing is, I'm diabetic, was borderline (at the time of the ticket) hypoglycemic and had no form of sugar on me to raise my sugar levels. I needed to sit down somewhere.

Sometimes I just don't understand the laws. Does it make these guys feel good?

Thanks for the help guys! I'm thinking of just contesting it for the hell of it. You never know what can happen!

Mitch

If you want, contest it. Use the name confusion, your condition and the fact that you were not aware of the details of the law. You can say that in other cities the curfew is at 11 and that there was no sign warning people of this restriction. Unfortunately, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Otherwise, next time, if you're not too tired, just run.

Most of the time the people that work there are 50 year old fatsos that play playstation 2 in their mom's basement.

The very least you can do is run to the sidewalk and tell him you never set foot in the park. If he gives you shlt, you just piss at his feet and run. By the time he gets his fat ass back to his booth to call the police, you'll be comfortably sleeping in your bed.

I'm pretty sure if they get anything wrong on the ticket it can be thrown away in court. Think of it this way: if the guy wasn't smart enough to take your name down properly, can it really be trusted that you were in fact sitting on the bench that late? Maybe he looked at his watch wrong...

My rule is always to contest the ticket unless it ain't that much. They always make you a good offer especially if it's your first time to make sure you do not go into the small claims court and waste the judges time.

Considering your condition, maybe it would work. I'd give it a try.
