Edmonton-Ottawa

To EDM: Heatley, Lee, rights to Chris Neil
To OTT: O'Sullivan, Cogliano, Gilbert and 10th overall

I saw someone post this on the Sens board, and although I was against it at first, I'm coming around to the idea of it.

It's a spin on the current O'Sullivan/Gilbert/10th for Heatley trade going around, except Edmonton adds Cogliano and Ottawa adds Lee and Neil.

I think Lee could eventually develop into a better defenseman than Gilbert (I'm a fan of both teams, so I really like them both), and Neil is exactly the kind of player Edmonton has needed for a while (I really hate Stortini and think MacIntyre is a pylon).

In one way I hope Edmonton does this so Heatley moves out west where the Leafs wont have to play him much, but from Edmonton's stand point, I'm not sure why they do this. They mortgage their future for a guy who can score alot of goals but who doesnt have the best attitude. Imo they have a solid group of young guys that they can add to with the 10th pick. Hate for them to screw that up.

I dont want to give up on Lee, I think he will play top-4 minutes the upcoming season. He looked great with Phillips, and has to much to offer to give up on his potential

I'm not ready to give up on lee yet, so i'd be against it.
If you guys want the rights to neil, go for it. He's asking for ~2M a year (a little less).

Would edmonton fans trade the 10th overall straight up for Lee? my guess is no, so how about removing them both from the deal (Lee and the 10th).

Cogs, Sully, and Gilbert
for
Heatley, (rights to) Neil

i'd be happy with that. Screw picks, they take 2-3 years to develop anyways.

Finally some love for Lee !

As for the 10th pick, I think this is the bargaining point, the 10th pick is most valuable part of the deal, in this deep draft. Murray would def. ask for it

I also think Lee is going to be quite valuable to the Sens, but I'll admit, the deal is a decent one.

I'd rather leave out one of Cogliano or O'Sullivan and Lee and just go with Heatley for Cogs/Gilbert and 10th again.

No need to include Lee.

I think this is a good deal for both teams.

Neil is more than Stortini and MacIntyre, and Lee looks like he'll be a solid defenseman

But apparently Heatley isn't getting traded before July 1 because of that bonus he's supposed to be given ? Or so says Jim Matheson, a writer for the Edmonton Journal

No.

But if you take out Lee and one of Cogliano/O'Sullivan, it's an even trade.

No from edmonton imo. They can't afford to give up that much of their future.

No so long as Lee is included. Take out Sullivan and Lee, and I'm fine with the deal in principle.

Cogliano, Gilbert and 10th isn't a terrible return. I'd still rather Frolov, JJ and 5th... but what you going to do.
