Derek Roy and the 13th Overall

The Sabres need a change of identity and Derek and the 13th seem to have the most value out of the assets that could be moved.

Roy averaged a little over 75 points over the past two seasons, playing 80+ games. He is a TOI leader for the Sabres, plays all around minutes and had a solid WC. His contract is also one of the better values in the league.

What would this package get Buffalo? Most needed are an upgrade at Center or a #1 defenseman.

I still like the 5th overall, Stoll, Boyle idea.

Why are Buffalo fans seemingly keen to turf Roy? Enlighten the unenlightened.

What would need to change for that deal to be more feasible, from your perspective?

Can't offer upgrade at centre, but would this be a consideration...

To Buf:
Kaberle / Ponikarovsky / Stajan + 2nd pk

To TO:
Paille / Weber + 13th pk

To many, he's a sign of what is wrong with the Sabres. He is small, soft(ish), a diver and often appears more concerned about his hair than wins.

He's also an excellent player with a reasonable salary that could get you something valuable in return.

Actually I'd rather see the Stars go after Pominville.

What would Buffalo want for either of them? I'm assuming the 8th would be involved, what else?

Either would be fine with me. I think you could probably get Pominville without the 1st but Roy probably not.

13th + Roy is a move into the top 5, or nothing else.

Why is Roy in a trade proposal? He has a great contract and he's a very good player.

Or for a legit stud. I know that Doan, per Phoenix fans, isn't going anywhere outside the west coast teams, but I could see a deal like Roy + 13 for a guy like Doan (and maybe a pick).

it makes ZERO sense, theyre already thin up the middle and have other 'bad' contracts they should consider moving first.

That's why something involving a pick and a center coming back [ie, 5th and Stoll, then using the 5th on a guy like E. Kane], would make sense.

Because there are so many 16 year old kids on these boards that don't have a brain. The only problem with Roy is that he has been counted on to be a #1 center, play special teams, etc., and be a leader....when he really should be counted on to be the #2 center on the Sabres. If the Sabres had a legit center with a bit of size...ala someone like a Brindamore of 5 years ago, Roy would put up 80+ points and be considered untouchable. But the reality of it is that the other 2 real centers on the Sabres, Connolly and Gausted, were both hurt for long streatches last year and Roy was counted on to do too much.

To me, Roy should be one the the 5 guys the Sabres build the team around. I would look for a proven winner to play that other center spot to free up Roy. AND YES, as a lifelong Sabre fan, we had the perfect player in Drury; leader, clutch, forechecked, shutdown center, chipped in some points, winner, etc.

As for Briere....I wouldn't trade Roy straight up for him. Numbers are close and Roy plays in all situations, Briere doesn't, and at just about half the cost.

ROY ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE, unless you overpay.
