Flyers OHL Prospects Update

Carter vs Richards - Part II (Kitchener wins 4-2)

Richards - 2G (1 EN), 1A, 2PIM
Carter - 1G, 2PIM

I wasn't at the game (in Sault Ste Marie) so I don't have any more details.

Stats to Date:

Carter - 4 games, 2G, 1A, 3 PTS, 8 PIM
Richards - 5 games, 4G, 3A, 7PTS, 2 PIM

Just a suggestion - maybe this thread and the QMJHL thread should be stickied and they can just be updated?

Richards - i have prefered him for over a year now. Only reason he fell in the draft was because he is smallish.

I agree the two threads should be stickied. I will post often, about 2 times a week about the Q guys.

Carter is definitely the better skater, but I'll take Richards' playmaking, grittyness, and leadership over Carter's anytime.

From what some of you who have had a chance to watch both Richards and Carter, do you consider them both excellent prospects for the NHL one day? Is one preferred over the other?

I get a good vibe from these kids......at least from what I have read on them and considering how well the Flyers have drafted in the Last few years, I have some confidence in these choices!

LMK

Thanks

Devon in Calgary

They are both top prospects thats for sure.

Everyone has their perssonal preference and I prefer Richards. But its a pretty even split.

One MAJOR factor to keep in mind is what each player is going back to. Peter DeBoer is the returning coach for the Rangers and is a fantastic coach with a fantastic group of returning players. Carter is going back to a new coach and new system in the Soo, with a fairly bad team around him. He and his teammates will need a few more games to get with the system. The Greyhounds are averaging over 40 shots against per game, a clear indication they need to learn the system more. Carter will be fine.

Just a quick update before i leave for a game..Ruzicka scored another beauty game winner against the knights Saturday. He was in tough against the projected best team this year but he played two strong games and helped to get two wins..

On Saturdaiy I traveled to Guelph to see Richards play against Dustin Brown's old team...Richards was very quiet and I was dissapointed..if i hadn't been looking for him i couldn't have told you he was on the ice..

BTW we have a planned trip to Sault St Marie with family weekend so i am hoping to sneak off and catch one if not both of the weekend games.

I agree wholeheartedly with this...The Flyers wanted Owen Sound to pick up Ruzicka because Stothers is coaching there..The only reason sixtenn year old star went to the Attack after they drafted him is because he is a close friend of Bobby Clarke who urged him to go and play under Stothers.

It will hurt Carter's development if the Soo miss the playffs.

From everything I've heard about this kid, I'm looking forward to seeing him play on Friday in Kitchener.

Good night for the prospects in the OHL.
2 goals and 1 assist for Carter, he was also the 1st star in a 4-2 Soo Greyhounds win.
Ruzicka and Richards each had a goal for their respective teams, the Owen Sound Attack and the Kitchener Rangers. Ruzicka's Owen Sound Attack went on to win by a score of 6-2.

Richards and Ruzicka each have 6 goals for the season, while Carter now has 5.

Hopefully it will be a better game all the way around tomorrow night! It was ugly. For a minute it looked as if Richards and Ruzicka were going to go.......

The game in Owen Sound is on TV so I'll be watching it from home, and we can compare notes later.

Oh man, what a game i have no idea how on earth we scraped a tie out of it.

You guys outshot us 42-13 and Gherson stood on his head.

Neither Ruzicka nor Richards looked good last nigh but Mike did collect an assist.

On a positive not everyone in the OHL is now looking up at the Owen Sound Attack.

It was a very good game - and the type of game I'm used to seeing between the two teams. Gherson is amazing - that's two games in a row that he won the game IMO. I fully expect to see Owen Sound move up in the CHL Top 10.

Owen Sound were 10th in the recent CHL rankings.

The attack on Ryan was cheap but apart from that it just seemed like a boil over at the end. CHL Watchre blew a gasket you agree?

Richards and Ruzicka both netted goals tonight while Carter helped his team out with 2 assists.
On a side note, Ruzicka leads OHL rookies with 7 goals.

Wasn't Ruzicka a 3rd round pick just last year? Everytime I check this thread I hear he does something good that night. Doesn't he have around the same amount of points as Carter and Richards? Why did he go that late if hes that good?
