Im hoping for Hackett in the second round personally. Gus or not, we need to continue to draft a goalie every year.

Probably should have included a poll in this one. I think Hackett is the best goalie but I don't think he will go first. Funny how teams could have had him in the 7th round last year.

Interesting article on Hackett explaining that his key to improvement was training with current and ex NHL players and his uncle.

I'm going to guess the Devils to draft a goalie with our first pick in the 3rd round.

He won't be the first goalie taken, but Maloney has his sights on a goalie that he believes will go in the fourth round and wants an extra third rounder to scoop him up.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the Devils take a goalie with the second round pick. My guess would be Hackett or Pasquale if either are available. Also, considering the severe lack of depth at goalie (only Frazee right now) in the system, it really wouldn't surprise me to see them take two goalies in this draft. Brodeur can't play forever, and we need to find his successor soon if Frazee doesn't pan out. I don't want to have to deal with the ugly business of trading for or signing a goalie when Brodeur retires, so hopefully we'll get some quality goalie prospects in this draft.

Pasquale at 50-something.

This goalie crop sucks.

I think the Flyers take a goalie with one of their 3rd round picks, or maybe a 2nd if they trade back from 21st.

Philly drops down to 26 in a trade with the Islanders and select Scott Stajcer.

Probably means North American. I wasn't aware there's a bias against drafting European goaltenders, though. Is there such a thing? I can't understand why there would be. It's not the same situation as with skaters, where some believe the stereotype that most Europeans are soft and don't play physical enough for the NHL game.

Why wouldn't they drop down to 31 and get an extra/higher pick? No one is going to take a goalie in the 1st round. Or trade their two 3rds for a high 2nd?

Olivier Roy, 29th overall by Detroit. I know they loved him when he was 16 years old.

I believe Flyers will pick a goaltender and it shoulb be either Olivier Roy or Hextall.

Hopefully Roy.

And by the way after that I could see Colorado pick a goaltender in the 2nd round.

Jeff Hackett can empathize with his nephew's draft situation. He went unselected as an 18-year-old in 1986, but the next year he was a second-round pick of the New York Islanders
WOW! His Uncle also undrafted his first eligible year. NYI should take him in the 2nd.

Certainly possible. Depends on how badly they want the goalie they have first on their board.

Didn't the Wings take McCollum last year? I would think that would steer them away from another goalie in the first round.

you could really randomly choose roy, hackett, pasquale, lee, or koistonen. As for position, i think it will be around 40th overall.

My bet is still on Roy, but that doesnt mean i think he's the best goalie of the group (my money is still on Lee).

Detroit doesn't pick based on needs, they fill needs through free agency. The scout that was in Cape Breton last year loved Roy and wished he was 2008 draft elligible.
