I'd honestly be a bit surprised if it is anyone but Tavares.

I will still be surprised if it's anyone but Tavares. To me, No. 1 overall is a bigger deal than just taking the BPA (not suggesting Tavares or Hedman is better than the other right now, I think they're a dead heat). I think it's in a team's best interests for the GM to make the call on a No. 1 overall. Get all the input you possible can from scouts, but you have to know that this isn't your average pick. This pick will eternally be scrutinized. Nobody remembers who went 21st overall in 1980, nor does anyone care. But everybody remembers the late Doug Wickenheiser.

I really don't believe you can NOT take John Tavares this year. Not if you're the New York Islanders. If it were a more stable franchise right now, with a brand new arena in place, in a non-threatened market, as a GM my thinking could be different. As it stands, it has to be Tavares.

imo.

The way Snow has been talking, I have to think it is Hedman.

He said "We're going to take the player who we think will give us the best chance to win the cup." That's not the kind of statement you make about a 1-dimensional scorer like Tavares. Usually statements like that are made about less flashly, more defensive players.

Because of course, Steve Yzerman was a great defensive player when he came out of junior.

They need more than just a solid defenseman, they could use a few top 6 guys.

As an Isles fan, I'm happy with any one of the big 3.

I haven't a clue who they will pick.

I think alot of fans in Leaf's nation are hoping otherwise, but JT will be at Islander. That is only my prediction as a fan who is praying it is in fact Tavares who is called to the podium first!

I think Snow and the Isles have been drawing this out for many reason.

1) I think everyone calling Snow and Wang jokes--as wacky as they have been in some descisions--was wrong. One teams managers should not call anothers anything. It is just unprofessional. It is a small fraternity, and it was uncalled for. I think by drawing this out, Snow/Wang get to push everyones buttons a bit.

2) I think Burkes comments after the lottery were a bit heavy handed. He may indeed end up with JT if the Isles don't take him first, but I think Snow and Wang are enjoying watching Burke twist a bit.

3) JT, Hedman and Duchene are ALL amazing talents. But I think in the end the desperate need for scoring trumps everything else--not to mention...

a) The Isles were the only team who did not have a 20 goal scorer last season.

b) Were one of the lowest scoring teams in the NHL

c) Need a strong clear cut #1 center.

d) Have adequate blueliners for the next few seasons....no "Prongers" or "Potvins" but it is servicable. The offence is....well....offensive.

It will be one of JT or Duchene, and I think JT!

On draft day, the Islanders should go up to the podium with all three sweaters (Tavares, Hedman, Duchene), just for the suspense.

Dr. Oz, to heal all of NYI's injuries.

I got a feeling NYI takes Duchene #1.

B. McKenzie said Wang and Snow gushed over him and want him bad as they are in love with him after watching him play. The whole character thing.

Logan (NYI beat writer for Newsday) knows more about NYI right now than anybody and if he predicts it than it's highly likely. Plus it would be just like NYI to do what most of the fans don't want.

Snow's comments that whoever we take should be accepted by the fans kind of points to Duchene too.

Hope I'm wrong as I want Tavares but that's what it looks like to me. Honestly, I can't wait for Friday to be over.
