Kukkonen probably could have gotten a contract in the NHL, but I'm sure he's getting paid more in Russia than he could make here, which is the case for most bottom-pairing D, bottom 6 forwards, and backup goalies.
i second this. while i was not a fanboy of kuks, i did respect his playing. there was a point where he would drop and block shots all the time. i think alot of us were puzzled as to why he was sh(*canned by stevens. i never saw mistakes in practice, he certainly didnt give up the puck enough to stand out, maybe he was just that quiet kind of guy that people don't like.

His contract is no problem at all for a 15 goal 40 point guy who absolutely destroys shootouts.

He's likely getting paid more in Russia. There's plenty of players in Russia who could play in the NHL if they wanted to. If he didn't sign anywhere until mid-July holding out hope for an NHL job, then it's different. He took money, security and playing time, which to a lot of people in Russia, is more important than hanging around as a 7th defensemen. I just hope all these people saying "see haha he's out of the NHL" is furious about what our goal tending situation is looking like for next season. I'd rather have Kukkonen and Biron, over Jones and Emery.

One season does not make you an NHLer and one season should not get y ou this type of contract.

If only Lasse was getting the same treatment as Jones. At this point I do not care, Lasse will have a good time in Russia and Jones will probably play in AHL.

This thread is not at all, even a little bit about Jones, just because you dont like him doesnt mean we have to bring him or anyone other than Kukk into it.

Cote isnt an NHLer either, should we talk about that?

Even if he has a year left, and Kukknen is a UFA, it must be understood that Jones is the flavor of the day for D-men in the Flyers rotten tomato throwing section... Any time they can get a clear view, they heave a juicy one at him. There must always one on the Flyers back-line... it is written in the Flyers fans credo.

Also, Freddy Meyer had 27 points in 2005-06, he has 29 points since then (although he was also waived and claimed twice and given a contract extension the same year - by the team who waived him)

The shame of it is that Stevens is still here, as is Jones. That's just wrong!

The day Richards or Carter get run out of town and Stevens is still here I'll agree but come on, its lasse freakin kukkonen, the guy was waived how many times and zero teams went after him? At what point can people admit he isnt any good? If he was good, he would still be in the NHL, this year, with another team.

Is Vaananen too? Or did Vaananen go back to Sweden or Finland?
