The Tootoo train could be rolling into Edmonton
The Oilers need to get grittier and Nashville could use some more skill. Robert Nilsson hasn't lived up to expectations offensively in Edmonton and maybe it's a change of scenery he needs. It's my belief that the teams have talked trade, but I also think the Oilers might have to throw in a mid round pick this year to complete the deal. While Tootoo doesn't have the offensive updside that Nilsson might some day reach, he's more consistent and would give the Oilers some sandpaper.

Just curious what people think of the value of a trade like this:

Nilsson + 4th'09 for Tootoo

I, as an Oilers fan, would be all over this given that Tootoo is exactly what the Oilers lacked last year, grit and passion. Not to mention Hemsky would be a little safer with Tootoo on his side and not the other way around.

Would Nashville go for this?

I'm no huge Tootoo fan, but his value to the franchise itself exceeds such a return. I'd probably do it, but to anyone outside Nashville there's no imagining just how popular he is here and the effect it would have.

I like Jordon--but asd was said what he brings to the preds is mroe valuable then what he could bring

also, this has a Kordic for Courtnall trade written all over it or Stojanov for Nasland deal

Unlike 95% of Oiler fans, I actually like Tootoo. I'd probably do it in the end, but if we didn't have O'Sullivan, I wouldn't want to give up Nilsson to get him.

...and I think that 95% would learn to like him.

He's a "love him as long as you don't have to play against him" type of player.

I would have a Tootoo Oilers jersey ordered the minute he was signed. Jacques is #22 and Tootoo is #22 (obviously) - management would have to give Tootoo his number. Or, have them fight it out for the right to wear #22.

I am glad a Predators fan gave some input, I kind of figured that would be the general consensus too.

As an Oilers fan that saw Smytty get traded (not for an overpay), sometimes GMs care less about what fans think if they believe it is in the best interest of the team.

all fans do this when an opposing player hits and/or hurts their star players, don't single out Oilers fans.

I cursed Tootoo like no other when he cheaply elbowed Hemsky this season in the face which knocked him out for like 10 games and it WAS cheap.

But if that guy is now on the Oilers, one less guy to hurt Hemsky and he plows into other teams top players to get them off their games, then yes I would welcome him with open arms.

Oiler fans would never be on board with this. As a fanbase they don't condone players that hit to hurt. Considering that is Tootoo's main objective, it just won't fly in E-town.

Nilsson would probably not entice Nashville into trading a fan favourite in Tootoo.

Alot of Oiler's fans liked Torres when he was an Oiler, and that guy is known for aiming at other players heads.

The thing about Tootoo is when he injured Hemsky, he stood up and fought afterwards with Moreau. Moreau even said in an interview afterwards that Tootoo had more honour than other players in the league of his ilk since he would answer the call for the hit, even though it was a legal hit.

I dont know enough about Tootoo to say if this is the rule or the exception with him, but I specifically remember that incident and Moreau's comments. Cooke and Ruutu will never be described with the word "honourable".

So... many... WHISTLES!

If it was a 3rd, I'd do it without hesitation. I would consider it otherwise. I think there are other players in our organization that can provide energy and bring the physical game while still playing hockey (Patric Hörnqvist can do a lot of that and has lots of room to grow), not holding the puck like a live grenade, and lacking Tootoo's reputation that has put him under a microscope with league officials.
