Is Brule officially a bust?

Opinions? I know people here say to give him more time, but he has shown very little improvement in three pro seasons.

There was a topic on this but whatever. I thought he was really good in his call up. Call him a bust in 2 years. Thats my opinion. Lets give it some more time.

In 4-5 years he'll be a try out for the Wings and become Dan Cleary v.2.0

I shipped him off in one of my sim leagues today for Halischuk. This means Brule is surely going to explode into NHL glory.

NO! Just you all wait... Schremp and Brule will be burning it up before you all know it!

... that is unless you want to trade some really good assets to Edmonton in exchange for them.

I think he was a bad pick, but not a bust.

He still has a window of opportunity to prove that he's a quality NHLer.

I think he may be in the same mold as Boyes and Sharp. Guys who need a couple extra years to develop. He could be playing on a 4th line right now in the NHL.

He'll probably play in the NHL. He just won't be anything worth speaking of.

I don't think he'll ever score 40 points in a season, I don't think he'll ever be anything more than a decent bottom-sixer the likes of what Kyle Brodziak is for us right now.

I disagree. He'll be a top six forward.

He'll be a 2nd line centre by the time he's 30.

I think it's hard to call a 22 year old a bust. If he still can't crack the NHL at age 26 I'll start to worry.

I think he'll be a regular NHL player, just not a very good one. So based on expectations in his draft year you could call him a bust I guess.

If he is then so is Jack Johnson, one of HF's happiest trade value'ers. Both were drafted the same year, and both have sucked at the NHL level. Let's put things in perspective people.

Rule of thumb to evaluate a player is 5 years after the draft. Some players can take longer to develop.

If he becomes an NHL regular in the next 2 years but doesn't live up to to his billing, I would say he was a "bad pick".
If he becomes a career minor leaguer, then he's a "bust".

I don't think he'll ever become the impact player that he was projected to be, but he could still become a good player in the NHL. I think like formerly highly touted junior players like Ricci, Wickenheiser and Cleary, he will need to reinvent himself, and with the right organization and coaching he can still find a niche and a role in this league.

I am a brule fan---loved him since he played with the giants

I know jacket fans don't want to hear it--they missmanaged the asset and it has hurt is development.

I think the year on the farm hs helped him--I am hoping he will be on the oiles this year or in the nhl somewhere this year. I think he could go on and be a Dan Cleary or Boyd Deveroux type player

That's the name I was thinking of when I saw the thread title...

Talent is there, just like Cleary. I suppose it's just a matter of carving out a niche where he's serviceable in the NHL. Also a proper opportunity and a good situation will help
