Who's gonna blow the 2009 NHL Draft

Well as history has shownu s there is always the team that blows there pick with either a reach or a prospect that wouldn't fit the team. This year in the NFL, Darius Heyward-Bey was drafted 7th overall after being considered a late first round pick. (I understand this is nothing to do with the NHL but i'm making a comparision)

My prediction: Toranto pick's Simon Depres/Scott Glennie/John Moore with Jared Cowen still on the board.

PS I am a Leafs fan and first post

4-5 years ago I would have said the Rangers but it seems we finally started getting our act together with 1st round picks.

I don't see Islanders blowing it unless they see something in Nazeem Kadri that surpasses JT or Hedman or any of the other top 10 picks. But the thing is the boom/bust ratio (which doesn't really exist) shows hedman ethier being less of a bust than JT or less of a boom than JT. I risk is the theme of the draft

Everyone from 1-17 because they'll all pass on Tavares

I really think that if the Islanders take Duchene it's going to be looked at as one of the worst draft picks in NHL history in a few seasons.

I wouldn't go that far. Yes, I think JT is going to be a better player and goal scorers also get a lot more lime light but Duchene is a good player. He will be a good player. He might not be as good as JT but he sure will be somewhat close.

I think they might take him, and look like geniuses in 3 years. Just a hunch.

if the Islanders take Duchene, cue the Mel Kiper Jr soundbyte on the Jets taking Jeff Lageman back in '89...

I could see this happening. Duchene probably won't put up the same points as Tavares but I think that he my end up being the better hockey player.... Only time will tell I guess.

Any team that takes MSP if Schenn, Kane or Cowan are still available.

Because right now your uninformed unthoughtful answers are harmful. I just got a headache trying to figure out how the Isles could blow this draft. Unless you are a JT fanboy it is not possible, Islanders come out of this draft BIG WINNERS. Maybe it is my fault for seeing the topic title and going hmm interesting sounds like that would be a good discussion only to enter the thread and read Erasers unmotivated response. I should have seen that one coming, just saying Islanders is easy and takes few brain cells and little to no thought process.

My vote goes for Atlanta. I see them trading the 4th pick to Toronto & ending up with MPS at 7. Even if they stay put i prefer Schenn over Kane & the feeling around the league is they take Kane. If the Leafs fail to trade up and select Cowen they would be considered too.

I don't get this thread... If Depres/Glennie/Moore is picked before Cowen, doesn't mean that the team "blew it". It means they saw something in that player they liked more, or that fit with their team. Let's hope they know more about these players than we do...

Besides we won't know who drafted poorly this weekend... we'll know 5 years from now.

This. Every team has their own ranking based from what their scouts have seen.

Do you mean just the entry draft? Or the whole night.

If it's the former, I think Atlanta have the first pick that isn't a no-brainer, and the guy they pick could easily end up not panning out (or bouncing around the league) and leaving Thrashers fans wishing they'd taken one of the guys taken in the next few slots after.

If it's the latter, I could see Tampa setting themselves back years in order to save some money and I could see LA making a play to be a playoff contender this season and trading away a pick that turns into a very good young player for a veteran who gives them one or two years of good but not great play.

False. You know after one season...just ask Canucks fans about Patrick White
