Grachev didn't skate today as he was "a little banged up".

Another interesting bit from Zipay:

Quote:
Two other notable goals in the scrimmage: A nice Matt Gilroy drop pass at the top of the right circle to Ilkka Heikkinen, who scored on a wrister. The 24-year-old Finn has opened some eyes with his shots in camp. Heikkinen, 6-2, 200, also collected an assist on Justin Soryal's jam-in.
Sounds like he might have more of a chance than expected.

YES. In my dynasty in NHL 09, he averages 45~ points per year

No, but really. Did you guys watch the scrimmage? A BEAUTIFUL wrist shot. He has great poise too. I hope both Heikkinen and Gilroy make the team.

Over whom... We got a lot of pieces to play with maybe give MDZ some more time to brew?

Evgeny Grachev didn't skate today. A Rangers spokesman said he was "a little banged-up, but he's fine." Grachev, it should be pointed out, hadn't skated since May 8, when Brampton was eliminated from the playoffs. Every time his missed a shot during the week, he banged his stick or waved it in frustration.
The overt signs of frustration bother me a little. It's one thing to be frustrated, it's another to show it ever single time you miss a shot. Not saying it's a big deal, it just raises a little flag in my head. Something doesn't sound right.

I'm really, really hoping "banged up" doesn't equal "post-concussion symptoms".

Borque looks like a player. Very fast. Scored sick winner in the scrimmage. Smoked 67.

Lundqvist is the same way he stated in practice when he gives up a goal. Doesn't bother me the slightest. Just shows how competitive these players are.

Awesome goal....but who is 67? That was horrible defense, but was even worse is that he just gave up and stood still after Bourque went around him, hopefully that was just one of the "try out" players and not one of our prospects.

just as long as he's not smashing his stick over the crossbar or boards and cursing up a storm while doing so, its all good. Show's he cares and really wants to impress the coaching staff and make this Rangers team in the fall. If it happens in gamse too that'd be really bad as well.

Sometimes players who don't score or stop the puck on every shot look childish when getting frustrated. I am not picking on the kid but come on after every shot? Even Bure missed once in a while

It may just be tha fact that he hasnt been playing gmes for a while so he is getting frustrated due to the fact that he cant do what he wants. Let him train.

You people getting upset over Grachev being upset are absolutely ridiculous.

exactly. Especially when he is trying his best to impress the coaching staff to make this team this year and the fact that he hasn't really skated since the middle of May due to the concussion.

If he starts throwing his stick or breaking it during AHL or NHL games in the fall, then there may be something to worry about.

Is it wrong to favor Gilroy, Potter and Heikkinen because of their age. I also like Sauer to make this years tean

I just think I rather have a more mature player coming in and not rushing the Sanguinetti, Del Zotto and now McDomough

also is Heikkinen physical?

and there have been no reports that he's like that during the season.

he's obviously rusty and it frustrates him some

Sick move by Bourque for sure, he is a very good skater a little on the small side but he might be able to find success with his mobility.

To anyone thinking it's ridiculous for Grachev to show a little emotion after missing shots he obviously has high standards for himself and knows he can do better. There are all sorts of stories in pro sports about athletes who are hard on themselves when they are having trouble. He hasn't skated in awhile and is rusty probably frustrated his game isn't coming to him as quickly as he thought. Plus he wants to make a good impression this camp is very important for these players.

Doesnt anybody remember how angry Lundqvist got after he let in any goal his rookie season? Everyone calm down.
