I don't know about anyone else but when Hossa was signed I felt like it wasn't gonna last very long, it was one of those deals that were almost too good to be true, which we shouldn't really have got. I have nothing against Hossa as a player but somehow he dosen't fit as a Red Wing, and while he was good in the regular season he vanished abit in the playoffs. Considering his market value I'd say pass on him. I'd rather let some young guys get the chance and we have plenty of those.

I liked Conklin more and think he's pretty much the best backup goalie in the league, but I can understand why he dosen't get a new contract. He's basically almost as good as Ozzie, but his age is against him. Let's try Howard or Larsson.

This was shutdown on a different Hossa (too many Hossa threads) thread.

What happen to all of the talk that was going on in April? Right around the time that Franzen signed. I remember Holland and Hossa both saying that the deal didn't hinge on salary cap issues. Well I guess on both parties that was smoke and mirrors. I'm suprised that this hasn't been talked about.

Too bad we have to lose him, worse that the Wings will probably drag their feet on trading his rights and in the end, get nothing for him.

I know they've always liked him, almost took him in his draft year. I think 5 mill's a bit low, 7 is more like it. Long term, say about 12-15 years? NMC. NTC as well, just to cover the bases.

heh?

If Hossa wants 6 millions per year. Kenny should let him go!

That way we can sign someone else or two players.

IMO, i rather go after another D like Beauchemin or Zubov!

perfect, an aging defender with inconsistency is exactly what we need. he can play the chelios role.

I really doubt Zubov wants to play for anyone but Dallas.. He's been there for 12 seasons.. I think he likes it there

Plus, he'll be 39 when the season starts and he's had injury problems the last 2 years.. I'd rather see the money spent on someone else..

Little hesitant about Zubov after hip surgery. Plus, I doubt he leaves Dallas, they probably have a coaching spot/mgt if he wants.

What do you guys think of these ?

Source : http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/g...arams=Itemnr=1

So either Zubov or Beauchemin, i see native Michigan John Madden or Samuel Pahlsson

If the Wings don't sign Hossa, but keep Hudler and Samuelsson the remaining cap space would still be quite small wouldn't it? It'd seem wise to leave that open for a potential move at the trade deadline.

Madden isn't from Michigan, he just played at the University of Michigan. But I'd take him, no questions asked.

He was as consistent as all of Detroit's other forwards in the playoffs, outside of Zetterberg and Franzen (for the first 3 rounds).

Another Freep

http://www.freep.com/article/20090629/SPORTS05/90629071/1053/Wings+offer+Marian+Hossa+about+$4+million+per+year

They offered about 4 million, balls in Hossa's court.

Also, what?

“I want to make sure Lilja’s healthy,” he said. “We’re going to trade one defenseman. We’re going to do nothing till we get to camp.”

^Does that mean no UFA's?

thank you! Zubov is exactly what this club doesnt need, a 38 year old dman way past his prime. I can think of a million ways to spend our limited cap space than on a injury prone dman. Ken Holland says no thank you

Well he would be a younger Chris Chelios.

I still think Hossa is over rated!

In the playoffs this year,

these guys performed, Abdelkader,Ericsson,Lidstrom,Franzen and Zetterberg

IMO,Hossa is another Joe Thorthon.

Yes, i had big numbers in season but where it counted the most, in the cup finals, he was nowhere to be found.

It sounds like their plan IF Hossa signs. If not, then... he wants to keep Hudler regardless sounds like, and will bring up Leino. Has to move a defenseman. Hmmm. Lebda's hit is insignificant....

I don't think cap hit has anything to do with it. Holland doesn't want to carry 8 defensemen again.

Well... it has to have something to do with it. 12 forwards, 7 D, 2 goalies, and that's 21 roster guys. No problem with having an extra if the money is not a problem.

I just played with capgeek.com.... with Hossa at $4-4.5 million, they're over with both Sammy and Hudler gone, plus without Meech. Add Leino for about the same money. That's 11 forwards and 7 D, total roster of 20.

If Kenny has made his take it or leave it offer to Hossa, and Hossa signs, someone else has to be removed, or you have ten forwards (no Leino) and 7 D or 11 forwards and 6 D.....

Im fairly certain one of two options applies.

1. Holland plans to play with the injury overrun all season and we will see a phantom injury to Holmstrom or Rafi.
2. Holland plans to trade Filppula if Hossa signs.
