I'll be honest. Part of me is going to feel a little bad for them. There's going to be a live camera watching the festivities. They're all going to be depressed. The reality that they are never going to get on the right track, due to mismanagement, and never going to get an arena better than the one they play in right now, that's enough to be just completely crushing.

While I do, naturally, enjoy the misery of Islander fans as I'm sure we all do, I really will feel a little bad.

Thoughts?

Why would we feel bad from them? Many feel Duchene will be the best player to come from this draft. And unless Hedman is totally overhyped he's supposed to be a solid dman as well. Unless you're the Thrashers it's hard to totally screw up the 1st pick.

If I was an Isles fan and they didn't take Tavares I would be very very disapointed. Thats what they been waiting for all season long.

The only thing about the Islanders that makes me happy is the prospect of them moving.

No, they're gonna have Hall by next year anyway. Boo hoo, you get a franchise center in Duchene or a franchise defenseman in Hedman.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them tank next season also after seeing how well it worked out for Pittsburgh.

I wouldn't expect anything less. I mean is any one of the top 3 picks going to instantly turn the team fortunes around? Doubtful. I'd have to think they have a good shot at picking in the top 5 again next year.

Yeah, I was living in ATL when that went down. Pretty sad...the franchise has never recoved from that imo. In retrospect they should have selected one of the Sedins.

That said, our two picks (Brendl and Lundmark) didn't exactly kill it for us. lol

I'm the opposite.

I like having them as a rival. I think it's good for fans and good for the sport.

Obviously, I always want my Rangers to win. But life without close rivals just wouldn't be the same.

I think as a fan your dream scenario is beating your rivals, not your rivals disappearing.

true, it wasn't a great draft year. but how many times do you get a #1 overall? hard to overcome screwing that up.

nope, they really can't mess this one up. even if they take hedman or duchene, both are gonna be great players.

really, for their own sake they should take hedman imho.

If they take Hedman, its gonna put Tampa in a position to trade down, as I believe they want a defenseman.

Two years ago Tavares had 130 + points. Duchene had 80 something this year how on earth do you take that guy instead.

Are the Rangers playing the Islanders tonight?

The Coliseum is full. That only happens when we are there.

I have to second Edge on this:

My favourite soccer team is Watford, in England. Their rivalry with Luton was rated the fiercest in Britain less than ten years ago. Now Luton almost went out of business and have been relegated to three levels below Watford. It's no fun at all. It actually doubly kills the rivalry, because now a lot of Watford fans (not all, mind you) feel sympathy for Luton fans.

If the Isles moved, we'd be missing 6 very special games from the Rangers' schedule. Unfortunately, I am pessimistic the Islanders surviving where they are long-term.
