I think MPS is the second best forward in the draft just like Kopitar i was doing carwheels when Kadri went 7 i thought MPS was ours for sure. He is a powerfoward, something everyone around here wants. This team doesnt have one good offensive forward in its system.

Pims are hardly representative of if someone has a mean streak or not. Maybe he just knows how to play a physical game without taking lots of penalties, which is a skill that many people don't have.

I hate to bring the Leafs into this discussion but last year they drafted Luke Schenn, a physical shut-down defenceman with a decent offensive game, just like Cowen, and this year they wouldn't trade him for Tavares.

Winning teams NEED players like Cowen and Schenn!

I love the pick.

Pims are a big part of the mean streak. If you control a game and have a mean streak you have to strike fear into the other players on the other team. Taking a brutal penalty like a huge elbow or a viscious slash strikes fear into the other team.

I read somewhere that the reason Cowen has low PM totals is that he is very disciplined, and a skilled hitter in that he manages to eliminate or erase opponents without taking a penalty. Sort of like... Luke Schenn.

It will be fun having Cowen vs. Schenn comparisons for the next 7+ years !

We did need a skilled forward, but really, you build from back to front, and we've now got Leclaire and Elliott in net, as well as Lee, Cowen, Karlsson, and Wiercioch on defense. It's up to Murray to get some young forwards in the Heatley deal.

Cowen at the beginning of the year was ranked in the top 5, his knee inury could be an omen in disguise that made people forget about him and he dropped (BTW Hossa (a fairly quick forward) also had the same knee injury after he was drafted... and I seem to recall he recovered fine)

I think we needed a forward but he was by far the best player available so kudo's to Murray for picking him and exactly what Ottawa needs.

People gotta realize though that the days of Karlsson+Cowen+Wiercoch being a force on our blue line are a ways away still and ALfie will probably be in his last year or retired by the time that happens.

remember D-men need longer to develop and I anticipate they'll break into the league:
2009-Karlsson
2010-Cowen (1 more year of Jr)
2011-Wiercoch (1 more year of college and 1 in AHL)

Add that Lee should be around as a middle of the pack dman, I would imagine A-train will be gone, Phillips will kinda be around as a loyal affordable veteran on the last pairing then.

I'm very happy with this pick. Cowen was slated to be a top 5 pick up to January this year, until his MCL and ACL injuries which I hope and don't think will be much of a problem, definitely the best player available at 9.

I'm glad the Leafs took Kadri because, although I would have liked Kadri as well, Cowen is a better prospect IMO.

I just saw Cowan and Eugene standing side by side. Eugene looks like a garden gnome beside this guy!!! This kid makes Sasquatch look small!! I had no idea this guy was Chara lite.

Truculent. Funny how we take a Burke player and the Leafs take the guy we wanted.
No NO NO, Murray Gamed BUrke, and made Burke pick a player he didnt want *thinking* he was keeping the player away from Murray.

WOW Murray Pwned Burke

Any chance he makes the team this year? It's been said that he's one of the most likely to stick in the NHL this season.

If he didn't have the injury, I would say yes.

I would expect if all goes well with the rehab he will be in the Sens lineup for 2010/2011.

This pick might make Volchenkov expendable.

Watched him live over 10 times this year he goes to the net as hard as anyone. Fearless plays with an edge love that type of player. Really reminds me of Eric Cole pre neck injury.

If Murray trades Heatley for a defenseman he better have plans to sign a forward in UFA

It took me a year to recover from my MCL/ACL to at least being functional. Nowadays, they can repair it in weeks. He looked like he was determined in re-hab, so i give top marks to him.

Is that really a compliment?

Forwards are a little easier to find than defenseman. I think we needed a forward for sure, but Cowen was a top 5 pick a few months ago. Nothing wrong with that pick, it's BPA.

Im pretty into 30 to 40 goal scorers that score goals the dirty way arent you?

If Schroeder drops to 26 im going to flip out. It would make this draft a complete fail.
