It's not like the kopitar thing because we went off the board back then and now both players were sliders. The comparison just doesn't make sense past the fact that we went with a D-man instead of a forward.
pretty good pick by Murray. Our Goaltending situation should be set with Leclaire and Elliott. Our future D looks awesome, anytime you can get a 6'5 shutdown dman you have to take him.
Heh you guys highly underate this kids offensive upside and tools. He has a monster of a shot from the point, is a damn good puck moving dman, is a great skater and yes he can even rush the rush. This kid's offensive game and upside is overshadowed the fact that he is a freak when it comes to his defensive and physical dominance and aggresiveness.
Cowan is a stud, and I have been saying this long before I thought sens had a shot at him. I can pretty much garatee you no other player in this draft save maybe tavares and Hedman could miss half the year blowing out their knee and still be a lock on everyone's top 6 prospect rankings out there. Honestly, nevermind MSP, I would have still taken Cowan ahead of Brayden Schenn also if I was picking 5th.
How good can Cowan move the puck? How is his skating?
above average for both.
I am still processing this pick. Basically, i still think kulikov will be better than him, but i understand why teams may have been afraid of him. Then it comes down to MSP vs Cowen. I would have picked Cowen in that battle before the injury, but the uncertainty of the injury would make me choose MSP in reality.
I guess in the end i can accept this, and be happy we got a great player.

From what I know he's potentially a more offensively gifted Chris Phillips. Probably not going to blow anyone away with offense but he does have potential to really develop that part of his game.
If Cowen fully recovers this is a steal for the Sens, he was an easy top 3 pick before the injury. I would have loved to draft a forward, but you can't disagree with the BPA and Cowen was it. Hopefully Murray can get a talented young forward or two for Heatley to even out our prospect pool.
Great pick, our future defense will be top 5 in the league if all our guys pan out
He's 6'5, 220lbs and growing. He is absolutely stunning defensively and is very underrated offensively, I predict a 40 point season for him next year if he stays in Spokane. I have seen him play live many times and his first pass is very respectable and I really like this pick.
No NO NO, Murray Gamed BUrke, and made Burke pick a player he didnt want *thinking* he was keeping the player away from Murray.
WOW Murray Pwned Burke
That is what I thought as well.
Burke... "who do you want? Kadri?"
Murray... "ummm... yep".
Burke... "Forget it, we're taking him."
Murray... "oh OK"...I've got to get out of here before the smirk gives me away.

Sort of disappointed that Murray went with Cowen.
From my understanding Cowen is indeed awesome and he has been working like a madman through rehab, but this team really, really needs some forwards inject in the prospect pool.
MSP really fit the bill for what the team needs ATM.
Still, can't say I'm mad about it. If the recovery goes well he'll most likely become a dominant blue liner, and that's never a bad thing to have!
But you can SIGN forwards. You saw what Philly gave up tonight for Pronger...at 34-35 years old...a roster player, a prospect, 2 first rounders and a conditional third. Guys that have size AND can skate AND have a mean streak just don't grow on trees. See Bouwmeester or Rob Blake vs. Pronger or Chara. I know who I would pick every time.
I know it doesn't mean much because of the small numbers involved, but I couldn't help but make this comparison between Cowen and Phaneuf:
Phaneuf at 16: 0.2537 p/g
Phaneuf at 17: 0.4225 p/g
A ~66.5% increase from age 16 to 17.
Cowen at 16: 0.2647 p/g
Cowen at 17: 0.4375 p/g
A ~65.3% increase from age 16 to 17.
Both guys started at almost the same point for age 16 (Cowen had 1 more point in 1 more game). Chances are Phaneuf's NHL offensive numbers are an anomaly rather than the rule, but I'd like to be optimistic.

Great pick by Murray and team!!!!!
Burke was the highlight of the night. He looked like a ****ing goof.
