I would think Pronger would sign for 6.5 if we gave him 4 years or so. I'd say Holmgren can keep him around Timonen's salary

I can't believe, too, that people are dismissing picks like the prospects are wallpaper. Players actually do develop into NHL-calibre starters, and some even become stars. Successful teams build through both drafting and trades.
No offense, but your posts have been ludicrous in these threads, let's break it down.

1) You said that Moore and Schroeder could walk into the 1st line on the Phantoms.

Completely wrong. Phantoms could easily have Bourdon and Marshall next year and Moore is still an 18 year-old kid. Schroeder is a 5'8 kid who has one year of D-1 hockey under his belt.

Another example of HF posters wildly overrating prospects.

2) Lupul negative trade value? 25 goal scorer with 35 goal potential signed to a fairly reasonable contract.

You're wrong yet again.

Tone down the hysteria, it's annoying to read.

I voted no.

Simply put, this is similar to the package that Anaheim gave up for Pronger almost four years ago. Fact is, Pronger is at the age where players begin that downward descent in their career. This isn't a Nik Lidstrom type situation either. This is a Pronger who played a very physical game. Those types of players age very quickly once they reach this point.

Contrary to what people may say about Lupul, he scored 25 goals in less than 16 minutes of ice time. On top of that, we lost a real solid top prospect in Sbisa as well as two first round picks. What makes it even worse is that we have no seconds and other than this year, where we have two third round picks, we have no thirds next year either.

The cupboard is looking bare. On top of that, this was supposed to be a new dawning of an era in Philadelphia in which top prospects and draft picks were no longer supposed to be traded for over 30 somethings. If Holmgren pushed for this trade, then Snider better have told him that if this trade blows up on him, then Holmgren will pay for it by losing his job.

A team gets one of the best #1 defensemen in the league and only has to give up its ninth and tenth best valued players and some draft picks? Brilliant trade. The Value City crowd can moan all they want. Holmgren needs to put together the best team he can to win the Stanley Cup. And he's done that with this trade.

An outsiders grading of the Pronger trade:

If Philly wins the cup they win the deal

If Philly can resign him, its a solid deal both ways.

If Pronger leaves after one year and no cup, the Ducks come out on top.

As with most trades, only time will tell how the deal worked out.

We have a much greater shot at winning a Stanley Cup now than we did 7 hours ago.

Trust me, Pronger is a player I would hate playing against, you guys will love him.

assets schmassets. Pronger is exactly the type of player this team was missing. He's a bona fide, mean, first pairing defenseman. Chris Pronger makes their defense better, makes their PK better, makes their goalie better; picks and prospects more often than not turn into nothing. I know this board is part of Hockey's Future, but c'mon.

Also, to my knowledge, Pronger has worn 44 and 25, what does he wear here?

Thanks for noticing my posts. On the first, how can conjecture be dismissed as "completely wrong"? I'm saying that these players have a high ceiling and I projected they could have played on the top line in the coming year. Unless you can see into the future, it is illogical to dismiss a projection as wrong.

On the second, it's very hard to see Lupul contributing towards the deal for Pronger, considering that it also took Sbisa and two 1sts on top of him. And don't forget the conditional 3rd if Pronger is resigned. I understand if you disagree, but calling this "wrong" smacks of insight you don't have.

Hatcher's 2 or maybe Jone's 6 or Carle's 25 if either are moved for cap relief . I'm sure he can have 52 if he wants it.

We can now have either Timonen or Pronger on the ice 45+ minutes a night. Think about how much that will benefit our forwards and goalie. Think of what that means to other teams and what they'll have to do to battle that. Teams are going to absolutely hate to play us again.

Sbisa is better in Anaheim anyways, Neids can teach him a bit. Philly has all the tools for a cup run, Pronger just seals the deal. Does he ever go somewhere and not do well?

Let's hope so. I like Carle, but he has likely been pushed to the third pairing.

I just can't wait to watch Malkin try to get to the front of the net now.

I'd like to give Carle a full season with us though. Maybe play Parent on the third pairing and try Carle with Pronger

I'm certainly glad that we gave up the picks and another Eastern team didn't.

I like Carle with pronger too. But I fear for the third line. I would really like to see some real checking forwards brought in, so whe don;t have to play our best scorers on the PK. And maybe we can win some draws.

This is a big season for Parent. I'm not sure I want him wasting away with Jones or some joe-blow on the third pairing for 12-15 minutes a night.

Play him lower minutes this year, so he's cheaper to keep next year
Even strength: Timo-Coburn, Pronger-Carle, Parent-Montador/Alberts
PP Timonen-Pronger, Coburn-Carle
PK Pronger-Parent, Timonen-Coburn/Alberts/Montador

either way Carle will be gone once Coburn needs more money.

Still gotta dump some cap to fit all this. And I still would like to go after a good young defenseman, definitely won't be Jaybo now though.

Once again I'm happy that my favorite sports team consistently shows the ****ing rocks to make moves to try and win right now.
