And as already mentioned, Kadri was ranked by McKenzie's sample of NHL scouts at #8. Its entirely possible (and in fact quite probable) that the Leafs had him higher than the injured Cowen. Overall, I'm happy with the guy we got. If you look at my post history, you'll see that getting a Cowen (aka Schenn 2.0) would have been my nightmare scenario this draft.
I trust you. Honestly I didn't want Kadri... Didn't really want Cowen either though, so meh. I think Cowen was the best choice among the Sens options; it may work out great, we'll see.

There is no problem. He just speaks his mind, which is a welcome change to Toronto media.

I find it hilarious that some think Burke would waste a top 10 pick to spite another team. He has a big ego but he's not a stupid man.

But seeing those guys toe-to-toe like that; looks like Burke actually intimidated Murray a little.
Murray was just like, yeah haha, we want Kadri (lol no we don't).

Haha, I bet he wanted Cowen more than Kadri, seeing as he focuses a lot on size when it comes to drafting players.

I love how the pick was made, they cut to Burke, and not Brayden Schenn hugging his family like they would for any other prospect.

Regardless, Burke's plan B was Kadri.

It seems like Murray didn't really care if Burke chose Kadri or not, I mean he was offering to flip picks or something until Burke cut him off and then he was like "whatever".

Didn't catch this at first, but Burke asks Murray "What do you want to do?"

They must have had something in the works, and Burke got pissy like a baby that it didn't get done so he took Kadri.

lol Burke was pretty pissed, IMO (this is just my opinion please dont hurt me leaf fans!) the leafs just really didnt have good enough assets (unless Luke Schenn) to get down there to pick Braydon.

About Murray and Burke convo. I also think Murray bluffed Burke. Who knows Murray could be laughing his ass off right now

The Niedermayer syndrome.. except Sedins are closer than Niedermayers can ever hope to be. I had $10 down on the recessive one demanding a trade by the middle of his first season to be with the dominant one, had they gone to different teams.

Anyone who thinks Burke got played by that evidence, is obviously having a hard time keeping up with the way the draft works...

I wanted MSP; not a big fan of Cowen. But Kadri is definitely not a bad pick by any means.

Burke's reaction = Far more 'TSN-friendly' than Schenn's.

No, he's not a stupid man. The idea that he'd be so petty, or that Murray would goad him into picking Kadri is just idiotic.

Yeah, maybe he should have listened to the offer first.

That, or he wanted Kadri (as he came out and said right away) and Murray wanted Kadri (as he acknowledged) so Burke decided to pick because why would you trade down with someone you know will take the player you want?

Which is exactly it. You don't pick a certain player in the top 10 just to spite a GM.

Dumb speculation by HFboards.

How was Burke able to draft players for two different organizations in 2005?

He asked about Burke and Nonis, hence all the Nonis-era Canuck picks.

What was the exchange with Gainey? It looked like Burke was kissing up and Gainey wasn't going to waste time on him. What happened?

From the video it looked like Murray thought Burke was gonna take Cowen and Murray wanted to trade up before Burke shut him down. And let him go on so he didn't have to waste other picks.

Burke: "so the rumor is that Lecavalier is either going to NYI or to you guys..."
Gainey: "..................yea?" (walks away)

Geezus, what an idiotic thread.

This is two gm's talking about who they're taking, and maybe making a deal if they conflicted.

They didn't. Ottawa had its guy, Toronto had its guy.
