Personally, I see Werek a bit like Korpikoski in the fact that he's going to be a dependable third liner who you'll hope for more, better offensive efforts.
That's fair enough.
I think I told Bluenote that I saw him as potentially being a key component in a group of guys like Korpikoski, Dupont, Byers who are support guys who contribute offense and really form supporting foundation for the team.

Next year is huge for Brodie Dupont to show that he can stand out in the AHL. At first, I wrote him off and figured he missed the wave to take his development up a notch but then I looked at his stats and overall progression and he's still on an upward trend.
I have a feeling though that he's going to be one of those player's who had some bark at the junior level and never was able to translate it over professionally. The one thing he does have going for him is he seems to take time figuring out the leagues.

He's a power forward who always project as a bottom six forward, albeit he could be a good one.
Those guys tend to take longer to develop and put it all together.
I think we have to be careful that we put all of our prospects on the same timetable.
Some guys are going to need longer, and just because they aren't ready at 21 or 22 doesn't mean they aren't developing. In some cases they are, they just aren't ready for the show yet.
Some guys make the jump at 20. Others need until they are 23 or 24. The key isn't always the arrival time, but rather that they are making progress towards their destination.

Too many times people fail to understand the impact of injuries on players, especially young players and how they set them back. Dupont showed progress the last half of this past season because I think he was finally healthy and had gotten his feet under him. Mike Knuble is a good point of reference. As long as the player continues to make strides in their game I think you stay with a player like Dupont.
I'm gonna barf. I hate Sather so much it hurts. Letting Betts walk would be the dumbest move ever.
Sather loves crappy players like:
Rissmiller
Fritsche
Voros
Boyle (and yes, belongs with the above)
You NEED players like Betts on the team. The highlight of the team was the PK and now they are gonna mess that up. Great GM we have. FML
How is Sather "letting Betts go?? He is an UFA. He is a Western Canadien who MAY prefer to test the market. Its no secret that Renney loves the guy and Edmonton may overpay for him. He may just price himself out of what the Ranger brass thinks is reasonable for a 4th line center/pk.
Boyle has much, much more talent than any of those guys - and unlike the 3 above players, Boyle also as some upside. I'd like to keep Betts as much as the next guy but who knows what he's asking for. I hate trading draft picks this early, but it really is a pretty decent deal.

I like this kid a lot. Solid move. Steal for a 3rd rounder IMO.
He'll win you guys over.
How dare you be positive! The cardinal rule of the HF Rangers forum is that everytime Sather makes a move you have to post about how terrible it is. Even if the reasoning is completely irrational. Everyone knows that!
There's still a chance Boyle will turn it around, enough to spend a 3rd round pick on.
Keep in mind it also took him this long because he wanted to finish college. I dont say the Kings mistreated this kid, but they certainly didnt give him a fair shot like most others. Last season he played 5-7 minutes per game, not very difficult to get outplayed by others who play twice as much...
I'm telling you, you can really shine with players like Ivanans and Harrold on your line...
He even had to play defense for 10-15 games back in 2007-2008 !
I wish him all the best and seriously hopes he will find his way with the Rangers. He can certainly play and how many of those will come along who are also 6'7''...
This was a very good trade by Sather, he has the potential to be a big foward for us this season and gives us much much needed size. He seems like he can play as well so for a 3rd in a year i'm all for it. If he can turn into a good 3rd line center with that size and Grachev and Anisimov we are getting the team bigger. I'm excited!
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forward Brian Boyle from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Isn't he a winger not a center? He's Voros/Orr's replacement with skill. I take back the terrible comment. I'm gonna be optimistic about this kid.
He's a natural center, but the Kings did try and convert him to a d-man.
Definitely not an Orr/Voros replacement. He's not an enforcer. Given Sather's comment about shutting down Anisimov (which isn't really true at all) I think the Rangers have him pegged for a defensive center role.
So let me get it straight - Sather signs two small Centers. Both his coaches this season asked for size down the middle(faceoffs). Now he trades for Brian Boyle(just in case Anisimov still not ready).
