Well it was nice to give Prust a vacation in the sun.

I like seeing Prust back, will be an affordable fit on the 3rd/4th line with some energy and grit but I hate seeing Vandermeer go.

I assume if this is true that must mean there is something in place with J-Bo, because if there isn't and we just dealt Vandy with no assurance of getting another defenceman that could hurt.

If they do sign Bouwmeester now, I am really happy about this. Good to have Prust back and clear out the cap space.

Vandermeer was grossly overpaid. Too much money for too many years. He's an alright 5/6 guy, but he wasn't worth that kind of money. Good move to clear money by Sutter....

overpaid yes... grossly overpaid though? no that is completely unfair... he played a 4/5 role... was not a liability defensively... he was physical and would drop the gloves... i bet most teams offer him 1.75-2 million

this tells me that they expect Bouwmeester to sign... otherwise they wouldn't need to clear so much space... and create another hole on the blueline

Agreed, he was also quite versatile and able to fill in at forward down the stretch when the cap was tight and didn't look out of place. Never was much for offence, but you could at least rely on the fact he wasn't going to be made a fool of on defence.

Sure the contract was a fair amount but it was not a gross overpayment as mentioned. And to this point, it would seem that at least one other team feels that $2.3 million for Vandermeer isn't a gross overpayment or they wouldn't have been giving up assets to get him.

I liked Vandermeer, but I'm guessing this is to clear some space to sign Bouwmeester, which I'm all for.

Nice to have Prust back.

This is turning into a great day. Jay Bo seems to be at a deal as Vandy is dealt and I am real glad Prust is back. It was sad to see him dealt in the Jokinen trade.

Great move by Sutter, creates cap space and gets us back a young enforcer with decent enough talent on the 4th line not to be a liability.

Won't miss Vandermeer because even if the Bouwmeester deal falls through there are a ton of defencemen available as UFAs to replace Vandermeer.

Another great move by Sutter.

I loved Prust this season, so welcome back !

He'll do a better job than Roy on the physical and intimidation side

Happy to have Prust back. Good cheap fourth liner who loves Calgary. I know Sutter loves the guy and didn't want to trade him in the first place so definetly not surprised.

Even if Sutter can't get Bouwmeester signed the cap space saved up will be valuable in getting someone else. Although I have to think Sutter is pretty confident in getting Bouwmeester signed.

Happy to have Prust back. And like others have said, this just looks like a move made so Bouwmeester can sign.

I didn't mind Vandy at all, a little overpaid but not grossly. I would of been in favor of keeping him if we coudn't upgrade at that position. And Jbo is a huge upgrade in every catergory.

Very good move... Vandy was a decent 5-6 d man in our system and added some grit. 2.2 M off the books, not Aucoin at 4M... 6.2M...hello J-Bo.

In Sutter's we trust.

Great re-acquisition for the Flames. We got Prust back for a player we were likely not going to bring back anyway. Let's not kid anyone with Giordano coming back, Pardy should be regular and Pelech will be given a long hard look at training camp Vandermeer was finished here.

Welcome back Prust.

1 problem with Pardy being a regular... it will liely be in someone elses lineup as he is free to sign anywhere he wants on wednesday... i see his agent seeking opportunities with teams with no defensive depth so he can play more... and let's be honest if we sign Bouwmeester with Pardy not playing PP or PK he will not see much icetime even as the #6 guy... i think if J.Bo signs we sign a Cory Murphy/Steve Montador type to platoon with Pelech as the 6/7 guy

Prusty!!! One of my favourite Flame players. Really glad he's back. You need heart-and-soul guys like him on your team if you want to win.

I think Pardy is gone, and although i am a fan of your cory murphy/Montador idea, i think we will have a Giordano-Pelech bottom pairing. Which i am totally fine with, especially with Phaneuf-regehr-Bouwmeester-Sarich likely eating up 50 minutes a night.
