Which would you prefer:

The Twins resigned long term

or

Gaborik and another offensive forward

This would be based on Gaborik and the 2nd forward signing for a similar cap hit as the twins. That would probably rule out somebody like Hossa, as the two of them most likely would cost a couple of million more.

Gaborik by far.

Don't know if I'd be interested in Hossa or not. The guy is not very good in the playoffs at all.

But definitely Gaborik. He's easily a top 10 forward in the NHL when healthy, and if you have followed his injury history and the measures he's taken to correct those issues you'll note that he should be clear sails going forward. Although this is probably the only reason why he could potentially be had in the $6M range. If he were healthy all along he'd easily be looking at $8M on the open market.

If only Gaborik would stay healthy...

With the speculation that Gaborik's groin problems are fixed you have to go with the Superstar rather than the solid First liners.

The Sedins 12 year deal with a 10-12 mil hit for each player will become crippling. When the cap drops to 50 mil next year thats gonna man we will have a lot of Nonis type pluggers on our team, or young players such as Hodgson and Schreoder who we wont be able to resign.

I imagine Gaborik will be looking for a 2-4 year deal.

I would much rather have Gaborik and, say, Cammalleri than the Sedins. Sign each of them for 4-5 years. In 2 or 3 years Hodgson and Schroeder should be in the lineup as top 6 forwards, which will give us the cap space to go after big time defensemen and contend for the cup with Gabby and Cammy on the first line (equivalent to MacDonald and Selanne) and Hodgson and Schroeder on the 2nd (dare I say comparable to Getzlaf and Perry?).

I dont think theres anything wrong signing two players at a decent price for that long other teams do that, but those teams never sign two of the exact type of player. In my opinion we should sign one of them to the contract they are asking, but that will never happen.

I have a lot of doubt in my mind that we will ever see the Sedins lift the cup. Sure they are ppg players, but it takes more than that to win a cup.

I was hoping for the Sedins to be signed plus the addition of Gaborik to replace the aging Sundin...

Is that too much to ask for? I certainly think it's possible. Kesler, Gabby, and Demitra would make one incredible line on top of Burrows and the Sedins.

I can only dream!

Thats 10-12 million cap hit for BOTH players, not each.

I think Gillis has tipped his hand while trying to be "polite" this time of year. It speaks volumes of true long term value and risk evaluation.

He wants to lock up Luongo first opportunity long term to determine what they have to work with, a full year before he is a UFA. He is willing to let the sisters walk for nothing days before they are UFAs unless he makes them accept a term and $ number they don't want to accept. I will be honest, I don't want them here for much more than their current dollar value. I think tying that much cap money on two players who bring what they do to the table is negation by addition. I will say though, despite that. I think they are worth more. They are worth more than I would be willing to pay and more importantly, more than Gillis seems willing to pay. I think he is really kinda disrespecting them if hockey only boiled down to points, but do you think it's an accident? I don't.

I would take on Gaborik on July 1st, let the sisters walk, and work short term or long term on filling that second hole. Everyone says that oh if the Sedins leave that we are going in rebuild, we can't possibly compete blah blah. I think you will see in a couple days that management has no such intention.

How about the twins get to lift the cup after captain Cody Hodgson hands it to them ?

I think you guys would enjoy a change on the first line. I love your 2nd line and you would have oodles of cash to spend.

To me if the twins are not signed and Gaborik is brought in that will be a significant change in direction for the organization. The twins have been the face of the offense for a few years now, and have kind of set the mood of the team. Gabby would definatly be a change.

In reality it would force Vancouver to sign or aquire a center for the top line, who would that be?

Gaborik is the best superstar cancer to not have played consecutive complete seasons in his underwhelming career.

There's an idiom that goes something like: Two Sedins on the team is worth more than a Goborik in the hospital, or something.

I vote for the players who have a proven dedication to Vancouver.

If Luongo signs an extension...I wonder if a package of Schnieder, Hansen ,Grabner could net us a guy who is rumoured to be on the move....Pat Marleau?

Hows a 1st line of Gaborik Marleau Burrows sound?

Frankly I think I would throw up a little in my throat if Wellwood played the 1st line.

I dunno, I dont mind him as more of a filler player, to but have to play that much ice time, just kills me to think of it.

I hope for the player's sake that it's true. But that's exactly what has been said every time he's "ready."

Marleau has a cap hit of 6.3 million, pretty hefty, and only one year left, a pretty high price to pay for one season.

Yeah thats hefty....If we could get him extended at a lower cap hit it may not be too bad.

That being said.......I would definately rather pay Gabby and Marleau 13 M a year than the Twins.
