The next superstar is...

Adam Almqvist. Picked at #210 by Detroit. A swedish smooth skating defenseman with a wicked first pass. With HV's jr team he has sent his forwards on breakaways from their own zone. The hockey brain on this guy is amazing from what I hear.

like Zetterberg did?

I have no idea how Håkan Andersson got away with this one.

abbyfan: could be because playing in the swedish jrs usually doesn't make the scouts **** their pants with excitement. I have never heard of the kid myself but i'm sure that Håkan has seen something in the kid if they chose him.

I'll try to get my Jönköping friend to make a vid with him as she has some pretty nice material.

Almquist was one of the best defencemen in the J20 SuperElit this past season, how could you not have heard of him?

How can you determine that 2 and 1/2 hours after the draft?

Because the rest of the scouts were lazy?

He has as good a chance (maybe not as soon) as any of the defenseman not named Hedman drafted out of europe.

Have you seen the guy play? His vision and creativity is amazing.

I'm willing to bet that he's got a great shot at the NHL simply based on Andersson liking him. And that's good enough for me.

Look at the word in bold. Now look at the team who drafted him. The scout who most likely picked him, Hakan Andersson. Look at his record with drafting players who nobody seemed to know about. Look who they've turned out to be, and how much the Red Wings have benefited from them.

Now tell me that.

It's better that they don't look at it. So Mr.Andersson can continue to do that every year. Much better for us.

And of course he just happens to be a Detroit draft pick. I'll say he never plays a game in the NHL.

I'm well aware of Detroits foreign scouting abilities & their history of drafting late round superstars. I'm just saying as a 7th rounder, the chances of him becoming an NHLer are slim.

And plus Detroit isn't the only team to find gems in the later rounds. Kaberle and Markov were both traded in later rounds doesn't make the GM who picked them geniuses.

Ever wonder if Detroit just has a list of players that they know should go first round, but since other teams don't know about them they go undrafted until late? Maybe they just giggle when the 6th and 7th rounds come along...

So they draft bust, after bust in the first two-four rounds, so they can draft what they feel is BPA in the 6th?

I am not exactly a Detroit lover

To be honest I think most swedes and wings fans around here would label me a wings hater...

Nopes. The pens fans on this board have made me sour on what used to be my favourite team growing up...

Does it really matter if he's a Detroit hater and Detroit was in the SC final?
