Tell me someone who is not a goon that had that kind of AHL season and blossom in the NHL.
So what exactly was wrong with Armstrong's season? The guy is never going to put up big offensive numbers and if he makes the NHL it'll be as a bottom 6 guy. Playing on the 3rd line in QC I'd say he is right on pace. 20 points is respectable for a guy like him in his first pro season.

What value does he bring or is he going to be just a body in the lineup? I have problem believing a 20 pt AHL player with no special skill pushing for a NHL spot unless he has some rare skills (fighting...)

If that is the case, every ****er in the AHL is ready. You got to be realistic sometime. Cant always be excited like a *****.

3. Giordano (0.892) - Pardy (0.850)
Extra - Pelech (0.850)

1. Kiprusoff (5.833)
2. McElhinney (0.850)

Total Cap Hit - $56.020

Just under $1 million in cap space.

Forwards pushing Greentree & Van der Gulik include - Backlund (1.300), Sutter (0.537), Armstrong (0.644) and Chucko (RFA) if re-signed.

Defenseman pushing Pelech include - Palin (0.498), Negrin (0.820), Aulie (0.758), Baldwin (0.600)

That's an awesome team, especially our top 4 defense. If Brent Sutter can win 51 games with no Brodeur and a defense of Oduya, Martin, White, Salvador, Mottau, Havelid and Greene, just imagine what he could do with this line-up.

....and before you complain about the forward group and say it's pretty thin, have a good long look at it again. It's not thin, in fact it's very solid with five 20+ goal scorers from last year and three more with double digit goals last season. (Not including defenseman)

Bottom line - nobody else HAS to be moved unless Bouwmeester wants an obscene amount of money. In that case he'll probably end up somewhere else and Sutter can move on to plan B. (Maybe Beauchemin, Neidermayer etc.)

McElhinney has a cap hit of 535k not 850k.

Leaving us a cap hit of 55.705m giving us 1.095m

Realistically we'd have to carry 2 pressbox forwards. Just barely enough room to top up Bouwmeester in case it takes more money and get a 2nd forward in the pressbox. We'd start the season against the cap. No trade deadline moves, and we'll possibly get more cap space thru the season with demoting and promoting players between games and LTIR

Will Niemsz be in abbotsford next season? If so i would be interested to see what kind of Chemistry he would have with Backlund. they may be our second line in 2010-2011.

no Nemisz will be in Windsor again... Major Junior players can not play in the AHL until their 20 year old season... at which point the NHL club has the choice between placing them in the AHL or as an over-age player in the WHL... in most (if not all) cases a player will get 2 more seasons of Junior hockey before they are eligible for the AHL... coincidentally this coincides with the age of payers who are unsigned draftees and can re-enter the draft

Great post, i like the salary information as well.

Ok, in reading some of the posts i agree Sarich and Regher can probably stay put for the year. My concern is breathing room with the cap, injuries, brining other players up from the minors and the ability to make a move at trade deadline.

With all that money tied up on the D we lose flexibility.

I think wayne primeau has to be considered for trade, but his replacement would be around the same price...maybe a 500k savings. He could a decent fourth line center mind you...not sure that helps.

Signing Lundmark and Pardy would also help...but with such limited cap space....

Resign Pardy and Boyd for a million each. I think Greentree is ready for a 3rd line role and could produce 10 goals and be physical. I think to save cap space we can move the oft-injured, soft-as-a-marshmallow Primeau and his 1.4 million. He was good in spurts but is expendable and a platoon of Peters and Sutter can do his job as effectively. Send one down and call the other up all year.

I think to save cap space we shouldn't carry 23 for the first few weeks if we can.
