HFBoards TOP 60 ranking: Defencemen #17

Now that the season and playoffs are over, I thought we'd do an "HFboards ranking" for each position.

So basically, who (of the following) is the best defenceman in the NHL? ie. which Dman would you want on your team for next year only? (independent of their respective salary)

Vote away.

Ranking so far

1. Lidstrom
2. Chara
3. Pronger
4. Niedermayer
5. Weber
6. Markov
7. Gonchar
8. Keith
9. Bouwmeester
10. Green

11. Boyle
12. Timonen
13. Phaneuf
14. Zubov
15. Kaberle
16. Martin

If salary didn't count I would definitely give a long hard look at Campbell. I ended up voting for Rafalski though.

Streit. What he did on a horrendous Islanders team was incredible. Not just the points he racked up, but actually being a plus player on that team.

Add Pitkanen. The number 1 guy on a team that actually went somewhere. These last playoffs were his coming out party. That POS is probably the biggest reason the Canes came back in the last 2 minutes of game 7.

I'm not going to beg for you to add them, but when do you think guys like Doughty or Bogosian will get added? I'm pretty sure a lot of people would choose them NEXT YEAR over a lot of guys on this list.

No, I dont think so. Experienced defencemen make a lot less mistakes than sophmore 19 year old Dmen. Theres a reason why you rarely see young Dmen on NHL teams.

Timonen is better than Green in terms of actually playing defense.
