Cool, I was looking for some info on the kid and couldn't find much. Sounds like a decent prospect but I am skeptical he would be coming over any time soon.
With russians it will be progressively worse in terms of bringing them here. KHL is doing all they can to keep homegrown talent. IMO the day we won't see russians being drafted in the first round at all is not too far.

I don't agree with the last part. Russians have the best top end players and they will go anyway in the first round. Look at next year for Kabanov, Tarasenko and Kuznetsov.

Yeah. He's a not bad player, but 1) isn't spectacular and 2) it's not that in America you couldn't find good defensive players. But much can happen in 2-3 years.

I didn't say particularly next year. My point is Medvedev & Co will do all possible and impossible to keep russian players in RSL. I read Sport-Express regularly and KHL officials sound determined to fight NHL. And with "tax-free" money they can do it easily, especially with their own homegrown players. Medvedev & Co are biting their elbows for missing out on Kulikov and losing him to NHL. When it comes to the next Ovechkin or Malkin of course it's worth a risk, but other than that NHL teams prefer to play safe, especially in the first round.

If you guys haven't read Logan's latest blog it's really very informative. To me Janikowski seems to be the guy with the most influence on our drafts as a whole. Would definitely be interesting to see Klementyev come over to NA and potentially get to the WJC. One would also think him being without a contract would make it easier for him to come over for the prospect camp. Either way he sounds like an interesting pickup. It's nice to have a few physical defensive defenseman in the organization (Hamonic, Niemi, Klementyev) although it is definitely an organizational weakness.
1 - He comes over to the OHL. Showing a willingness to come to NA. Not only that, but what he makes in the OHL most likely pales in comparison to what he could pull in overseas.
2 - He's going to a VERY good London organization. He'll be receiving some of the finest coaching in Major Junior hockey and will most likely be on a competitive team.
Logie's report included that he intends to play in Canada.

Well, that might not be completely true. Him playing in the O would be the best doggone thing that could happen for us, but the KHL is a tougher league against better players, in my opinion his development would be best playing against those guys. But by playing there he would be building relationships and be less likely to come over, which is bad for us.

You have a point, but I ultimately feel that it's "safer" for the Isles if he stays in North America and we don't risk what you're saying in the KHL. He can always go back to Russia if he doesn't pan out in the O/A/NHL, but it would be tougher to get him over here if he makes a name for himself in the KHL.
There was a 2nd round too, it was out of 76 players not that it makes a difference but a player that's a defencive dman wouldn't go very early unless they were lights out. If he can play top 4 minutes with a team like London it could be good for his North American development.

It's not like a couple of seasons in the OHL would be bad for his development either.
Less chance of getting lost in the numbers game. Ever look at the end of season stats from the Russian league? You'd think every team throws out five lines a game!
But point is, just get him over before the uncertainy sets in.
Bad enough that we have to sweat it out with Petrov, probably the best pure talent in the organization outside of Tavares.
