Gandler wants at least $5 million per for Antropov
The question to ask then is why Fisher is making $4.2M.
This idea that agents have that one GM has to pay stupid money just because another one made a mistake and paid it in the past is getting quite old and tired.
Antropov is worth somewhere between $3.5M - $4M tops. If he doesn't want to play for that, the GMs should let him go back to Siberia to play.
Well I hope Burke keeps his hands clapping and his pen in his inside pocket. Applaud him for wanting so much, turn around and walk away laughing hysterically. Toronto can put $5mil to better use than that!
Guys, I hate to play I told you so's, but I predicted he'd be asking for around this much months ago. They'll probably settle in around 4.5 for four years or something once FA hits, but it looks like it won't be in NY.
Who is going to pay that? Seriously.... $4.5 million for a two-time 20-goal scorer who has never had a single 60 point NHL season?

With the Oilers targeting JBo, there is no hope in hell that they throw that kind of money at Antropov...unless Quinn really...and I mean REALLY loves the guy.
Antropov is not as good as he thinks he is, but he's getting a bit underrated on hfboards. Look at his stats for the last four seasons:
05-06: 57gp 12g 19a 31pts
06-07: 54gp 18g 15a 33pts
07-08: 72gp 26g 30a 56pts
08-09: 81gp 28g 31a 59pts
I'd say that he's about a 55pt player. If he can stay healthy, than he should be worth about 3.5 or 4 million per. Five million is obviously excessive for a solid second line player, and I hope, as a Rangers fan, that Sather does not resign him for that, but Antropov is not a scrub like some people seem to think he is.

He's a good player. A solid, streaky, 2nd line, b-level winger in the NHL. I just think he'd be far overpaid at 5 million. If you can get him at 3.0 to 3.5 then that's a good deal. I think 4 is a bit much and 5 is just ridiculous imo.

Antropov just isn't one of those players you should dish out cash for. He's an underachiever with consistency issues and no gamebreaking ability. He's not a heart and soul player and, again, his talent just ain't that great. Either that or he hasn't found a way to make himself effective. His potential is, like you said, only around 55 points. Plus he can't stay healthy. This is why people don't want him unless he's cheap. It's just not a smart move to throw many eggs into the Antropov basket.
Lupul is about to make 4.25. And if he isn't scoring...he isn't doing much either. But Surely every GM will say...I'm not going to make a stupid deal just because others have.
I thought 3m would still be a little much for him.
I'm going to have to disagree. He is worth $3.5M, maybe $4M to a team that is solid need for a top-6 player.
He's coming off his best season ever, he's a 55-ish point kind of player, but he brings other things to the table. Even though he's slow, he works hard. He'll play in front of the net if he needs too, he'll bang along the boards, and he plays a good defensive game. A few years back, he was an excellent PKer for Toronto.
But, he's also got injury concerns. I think he's stayed relatively healthy the past couple of seasons, but before that you couldn't keep him in the lineup.
if the oilers can move Penner--they will re invest the money into Antropov and then the oiler board takes a contract out on Antropov's life
IF the move Penner. Ok. So that means another team has to take on a relatively bad contract to make this other relatively bad contract happen. Things have tightened up with the amount of stupid contracts out there soaking up cap space -- I don't see anyone lining up in the current cap uncertainty to make that happen.

Well, I don't necessarily think its smart. I like Antropov, but 4.5-5 is a bit rich if the cap goes down. If I had to bet on a team that'll pay him that sort of money, it'd probably be Atlanta.
