He's coming off his best season ever, he's a 55-ish point kind of player, but he brings other things to the table. Even though he's slow, he works hard. He'll play in front of the net if he needs too, he'll bang along the boards, and he plays a good defensive game. A few years back, he was an excellent PKer for Toronto.

But, he's also got injury concerns. I think he's stayed relatively healthy the past couple of seasons, but before that you couldn't keep him in the lineup.
I can understand what you mean in value, but realistic money that just seems high. With the cap you'd expect more production at that price, but I can't judge too much as my sample size of him is rather limited, and I can justify why someone like Malone gets 4.5. I'm sure there are things I don't see.

Well..

He did play for the Rangers...

and seeing Gomez, Redden and Drury lifting far more then 5M, he probably thought.

"I can actually score goals, I'm no liability in my own end, and I show up when it matters to the team. And since I am a humble kazakstan guy, I'll ask for a few M less than them.."

Anyone else find it interesting this crap is coming from Sather? The guy who paid Drury and Gomez 7+, and Redden 6.5.

He became a Canadian citizen and spends his off seasons in Toronto, so I would say the likelihood of going to Russia to play hockey is very low.

There's one team I can see paying even close to that kind of money for Antropov... and it's the Thrashers. Kovalchuk has publically stated in the past that if he's going to say, that he wants the team to be moving in the right direction and making an honest effort to win. They might slightly overpay for Antropov to bring some talent in to help Kovy out.

Yeah, even $3M is a little ridiculous. One dimensional players do not deserve such contracts.

Antropov is not Ryan Malone, who isn't even making 5M+ himself.

Anything over 4M is ridiculous.

Aahhhh.. Antro isn't too bad in his own zone. He uses his reach well, has good positioning, does work.. But he's certainly no Larmer either.

all antropov getting paid 5 million dollars does is prevent potentially better young players from playing in the NHL due to the cap being tied up in ****** players.

How do you figure?

Antropov doesn't average more PPG than Malone. And Malone is superior in every other aspect of the game.

Yet Antro's the better player? I beg to differ. . . .

I'd give him 5 million... in his first year. And then 3 million, 2 million, 2 million, 1 million.

2 years ago, he might have gotten 5m. The cap was going up significantly ever year, and teams were throwing around money like crazy.

Welcome to the new world. Teams are faced with the likely scenario of the cap going down, they are stuck with the fat contracts they handed out previously, and they aren't going to be throwing around money like before.

No way he gets 5.

Antropov's put up higher PPG than Malone pretty much his entire career. I don't really see what other aspects of the game Malone has an edge in, besides physical play. I'd take Antropov at an identical salary any day.

One could only imagine the incident that would have occurred if Antropov was still with Toronto and he went to Burke and asked for 5M a season.
