I figured not. When it comes to Lecavalier, anything and everything people read rumoring a Lecavalier trade will be taken as gospel, no matter what the parties who are actually involved and actually know what's going on (Tampa's GM) have to say about it.
But your GM is a smarmy liar...no way around it. He's got the Bettman aura around him. It's not like he is any more credible than RDS. That is not to say that anything will come of the RDS report...just that nobody has any reason to believe what Lawton says.
Listen to him talk...the way he moves his hands, his squirminess, how he doesn't look up when he talks. It's just a vibe, but it's the same one you get from Bettman...and nobody likes him.

I hope everyone remembers his interview with landsberg on OTR:
basically along the lines of:
we haven't fielded any calls regarding vinny or the second overall bla bla bla
final question landsberg puts him on the spot and tells him to be straight up about it
and he does exactly what MonacoBlue mentions and doesn't give a straight answer and michael even calls him out on it................

Do you have a link to that? I'm asking because while he said there was no activity as far as Lecavalier, he was quite open about fielding multitudes of offers for the #2 pick, told us we would be shocked (as he was) at some of the deals being discussed for it, that he would consider moving it but not for a player over the age of 30, so it would surprise me that he would tell someone he hadn't fielded any calls about the second overall.

I could be wrong because I am recalling off memory because it was definitely for the vinny talks however I am probably wrong about the second overall...just google off the record brian lawton i believe its the second link but i can't confirm because streaming media is blocked at work
tell you the truth only reason i am kinda bashing lawton is because your noob poster boltz balla is really annoying lol and borderline trolling...

Is a GM supposed to show their hand at all times? There is only one person he has to give an honest answer to, and thats his employer. Look, Lawton is not really my favorite as a GM. At the same time, it seems like most here are trying to demand some sort of severely open honesty that you are not going to get from ANY GM in ANY of the major sports. A GM is in a 24/7 Poker game with Agents, Players, and other GMs.... not a job I want for sure.

No one needs to like him, he has what they want, and thats Vinny. To get him, you will need to go through him. (Which scares me at times)

Lawton has been contradicted directly by another party that was actually involved (namely Bob Gainey) on a previous round of Lecavalier trade talk. By collating with other sources, it's been pretty well-established he, well, hasn't told the whole truth -- something which he is entitled to do as a GM, I suppose, but it does mean you can't take what he says at face value.
It's ironic, but Lawton has shown himself to be an unreliable source in this.

I think it's the package. Once again this past weekend, Lawton explicitly says not having discussed Vinny Lecavalier and yet, several league sources are saying that there has been discussions up until the draft... The guy is a slime ball and I wouldn't trust him one bit.
As for the Lecavalier to Montreal idea, as much as I'd like to see it happen, I'm certainly not holding my breath. Unless the Kostitsyn brothers send their "friends" to take care of Barrie...

That might not necessarily be true. It's reported locally that Barrie was in discussions without the knowledge of Koules or Lawton. So, it's quite possible when Lawton said he hadn't spoken to anyone that it was entirely truthful. Can't own up to something you don't know about. Since that time Lawton has been very up front about receiving calls about Vincent (he has always denied he has initiated any such calls) and saying that if a slam-dunk knock-your-socks-off deal came through that he would trade him. That's not exactly trying to be secretive. (As you can see, there are conflicting reports about who may be in favor of trading Vincent and who may not be.)
Keep in mind that it was Gainey who named names and brought this up as an excuse for his team's performance in the playoffs, which is pretty shoddy on every level, as well.
And you're entirely correct in saying "hasn't told the whole truth -- something which he is entitled to do as a GM, I suppose, but it does mean you can't take what he says at face value." I would suppose that could also apply to Mr. Gainey, so it would appear there's a distinct possibility that we're dealing with two potential lying sleazebags, and neither can be trusted!

Well they are smarter than your team. Lightning have one stanley cup this decade and how many did your team win? Also you guys are always trying to get Vinny.... who is on a TB team. So which team is smarter? We also made you guys look pretty smart in the sweep in 04. Vinny made your defensement look pretty smart in that self pass behind the net for a goal.
If Lecavalier does not have the foresight to request a trade out of Tampa then I say let's move on and as much as I hate the thought of him wasting his talent in a brutal non hockey and joke of a market that is Tampa Bay. Did you not celebrate your Stanley cup parade in a parking lot. How pathetic.

Dont be jealous because we won our stanley cup sooner than you. 16 year ago was your last one and prolly cant even remember it. Dont hate on Tampa because we have a better future than your team does. We have Vinny, Marty, Stamkos, Hedman, and Smith to build around. You guys dont even have half of your team signed. Just come out and say that you envy our team. We will forget about it. Yes we did celebrate out in front of our arena but so what. You guys have had hockey in your country for as long as it has been around. Hockey is new in Tampa. We are in FL where Football and Baseball rule the whole year. Winning stanley cups and having players like Vinny on our team helps Tampa grow as a hockey market. If you were a true hockey fan you would want to see hockey branch out to places like Tampa. Just because we have a player who you want so bad you will suck a dick for you dont have to hate on Tampa. You guys will always sell out no matter if your team sucks like they do now or not. You just dont understand what its like to be in a small market so dont tell us what you know about it.
