HFBoards TOP 100 ranking: Forwards #19

Now that the season and playoffs are over, I thought we'd do an "HFBoards ranking" for each position.

So basically, who (of the following) is the best forward in the NHL? ie. which forward would you want on your team for next year only? (independent of their respective salary)

Vote away.

Ranking so far

1. Ovechkin
2. Malkin
3. Crosby
4. Datsyuk
5. Kovalchuk
6. Iginla
7. Getzlaf
8. Zetterberg
9. Thornton
10. Lecavalier

11. Parise
12. E.Staal
13. M.Richards
14. Nash
15. Heatley
16. Hossa
17. Alfredsson
18. Savard

St. Louis. Pretty easy choice for me.

Add Havlat - 22nd in the league in scoring while playing on the "checking line." Hemsky was 45th in scoring...

How are you deciding on who to add for the next poll?

Add Ribeiro, I definitely think he deserves to be there as much as Hemsky.

he missed 10 games and still maintained a 0.92 PPG avg playing with crap. So your 22nd vs 45th comparison is quite misleading. Havlat did play with Toews and Kane on the PP sometimes btw.

I decide based on who I think should go up next. Dont tell me Havlat is CLEARLY better than: Hemsky, Marleau, Toews, Kane, Doan, Koivu, Stastny, Sakic, etc. It could be anyone of these guys.

Can someone make the case for Spezza? As far as I can tell, they are close offensively with St. Louis the better goal scorer and Spezza the better playmaker.

But St. Louis isn't afraid to get his nose dirty (he's a nasty little SOB, not a nasty as Theoren Fleury was, but pretty nasty) and he's very good defensively (placed pretty high in Selke voting a few times). Whereas Spezza is notorious for being soft and lazy on D.

I think Havlat was clearly the best Blackhawk forward last year - more defensive responsibilities than Kane or Toews, and he got more points doing it. Other than that, yes I agree these guys are in the same group more or less.

I was mostly curious how you were selecting the next guy for these polls. Most of the time when people run a series of polls, they will add the guy who got the most votes to be added (with their own vote counting too obviously). Until Hemsky (who kind of came out of nowhere), the guys you added seemed to match up to who people were telling you to add more or less.

Daniel Alfredsson by far is the greatest forward in the NHL right now.

I rarely see a name come up more than once. If I see a name 3+ times, then yes, Ill surely add him next. Whatever the case, that person wont be voted for another 10+ rounds anyway so it doesnt really make a difference.

Oh really?

We'll see which of the two makes team Canada.

You do understand leadership and physical play are part of being a great hockey player, right?

IMO when Spezza is playing well, he is a top 10 player in the league. He has the talent to be up there with Thornton, Lecav, and Getzlaf. I guess that's why I voted for him. Based on potential.

He's been quiet recently and people forget about him, or else they give all the credit to playing with Heatley and Alfredsson. Anyone who watches him play knows that's not the case.

This is a pretty good list so far. I might bump Zetterberg, Richards, and Nash all down 2 spots though.

Deservedly not on the poll.

He is not one of the top 30 players in the NHL. He'll get on later, I'm sure.

Maybe not top 30 but top 40 would make sense. But, I guess we will see who falls in his category before I can say anything.
