One thing that should be considered is that two teams, both Ottawa and Toronto, thought Kadri would be a better prospect than MPS. Something to consider. I really like the MPS pick, but I'm nowhere near close to the prospect knowledge of those two teams.

this was the point of the thread. But alas, apparently the great HF knows more than two of the most experienced GMs in the game could ever know.

You're making the assumption that they were drafting BPA. Burke never has. He always took Canadians with size over more talented Euros, Sedin twins not withstanding.

And I should also say that practically every single professional in the business had Paajarvi over Kadri before the draft.

Paajarvi-Svensson was well ahead of Kadri on my draft list weeks before the draft and he is now too. So I'm happy.

Murray really liked Kadri and wanted to move up for him. Burke really liked him and didnt want to move down because Murray would have taken him.

Ottawa's scouting staff is very respectable, and I take their opinion over all of you saying ' Paajarvi by a mile '

Fans tend to create an image associated with a certain prospect, without having the proper insight and knowledge.

Three actually. In that short Burke/Murrsay video clip before the Leafs went up Murray said he was worried about Dallas as well.

How does this even make sense when Kadri was drafted 7th over MPS at 10?

Except for:

MacKenzie
Burke
Murray
Newiendyk

Three GMs and the best guy outside a GM position with draft predictions had Kadri over MSP.

In the longterm, MPS.

Like Markus Naslund, it may take him longer to put it together, but when he does, I see an explosive player.

I definitely respect Bob McKenzie, but I'm not sure his draft rankings were about BPA.

Red Line, ISS, THN and the rest of the known universe had MPS ahead of Kadri.

Kadri is a very good player as well. Close pool, I had to go with MPS though.

Burke has a plan in place.

He wants his top 2 lines to contain skill, and bottom 2 to contain grit and toughness.

Unfortunately, in Toronto, none of our Euros, save for Kubina and Frogren have the toughness that Burke is looking for.

I dont blame him for trading Antropov.

I voted for MPS mostly because of his speed. But, I do think Kadri is an elite prospect. And, at the end of the day, it would not surprise me if he wound up reaching a higher level than some of the guys who went ahead of him.

This is sort of like choosing between Megan Fox and ScarJo. how can you go wrong?

True.

And Burke is a good hockey man and champion.

I can see why he moved Antropov, but I also think he had his mind set since day one that Kaberle was being moved, and that I find puzzling.

I also think Kubina is serviceable on a strong team, and Stralman will probably not get a fair look. Just speculation on my part.

I do think Schenn and Kadri are good pieces and will make good Leafs.

I dont see how people can say "MPS and its not even close". Obviously several NHL teams disagree. I admittedly don't know a heck of a lot about either (really, what does the WJC and a few OHL games mean?), but I know enough to say both are very talented and have a lot to prove.

MPS dropped for a reason.....
