Biron won't be making this season, what he made last.

He ****ed up. He's the architect of his own misery.

I'm not sure that they are bringing him up season.

Luongo plays some much that the kid would never see the ice.

I think he had some bad advice from his agent too.

Madden 1 year $2.75 million (TSN)....I know we don't have the cash. But, if we could have worked some room, I would have gladly taken him on a one year deal.

EXACTLY! These players trust their agents and most of the time a player relies on them to tell him what they are worth....If his agent went to him and said I can get you $5 million per, do you think Biron is going to say "No, I want only 2 million"

Of course not, he is going to let his agent negotiate....And his agent didnt negotiate with the Flyers cause he probably figured they couldnt afford the number he wanted, thus Biron fired him.

Which is precisely why I never criticized Lindros for having his father as his agent.

Of course the agent works for the player, but at some point the player has to be accountable for having the agent represent him. These guys aren't stupid, they know what's going on.

The fact that Thomas signed for 5 million this past year was plenty of evidence that Biron WASN'T.

Anybody thinking otherwise, we'll agree to disagree.

Biron is a good goalie, and a great guy...but a 5 million dollar goalie he is not. Especially with Khabibulin going for 3.75.

We all know he isnt a $5 million goalie, not disagreeing with you....but people get overpaid all the time, who knows what discussions went on between the two.

Fact of the matter is, Biron fired his agent so I think it is safe to assume he wasnt doing his job.

I think he still could get at least 3, but that's just me. If Khabby can make 3.75, I don't see why Biron couldn't. He's not getting the 5 he asked for, that's for sure, but I could see some low end teams giving him decent money.

Edit: But it won't be the Canucks, which was the starter of this convo.

True, we don't. Which is why some of the opinions about other things are often funny. At least to me.

I'd hazard to guess that his agent told him he could get him 5M, and Marty broke out in laughter. He's a pretty down to earth guy, and I trust he knows himself that he's not worth that kind of money.

3M for a backup is an expensive proposition. I suppose it could happen, I just don't where it would happen. Does he land in Chicago if they move Huet? Buffalo?? Detroit???

Not many teams have holes, especially 3 million dollar holes.

My thought process is Biron could be used on a team in which he would be competing against younger goalies for a starting job; a 1a, 1b situation. A team with lots of cap room with this kind of situation open would sign Biron for that money for a year.

N.J.'s backup goalie situation...

http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2...new_jerse.html

Quote:

The Devils lost Scott Clemmensen via free agency Wednesday and aren't sure if they plan to re-sign Kevin Weekes.

So who will be the team's backup goalie next season?

Possibly minor leaguer Jeff Frazee.

"We'll be very happy if Frazee is our backup," general manager Lou Lamoriello told me Wednesday night. "We'll make that decision over the next week or so as to whether he needs another year in the minors."

Does that mean Weekes, an unrestricted free agent, is out of the picture? Or might the Devils sign him?

"There is a possibility," Lamoriello said hesitantly.

Interesting signing.

The Hossa signing is also fascinating.

If you break it down, it's really an 8 year 60 million dollar deal or so (7.5 per year) and they just tacked on the extra 4 years to lower the cap hit by a couple million. I don't think Hossa has any intention of playing until he's 42, I think they added the extra 4 years to give Chicago a break.

My real question is if other GMs are going to start copying this, particularly with the big-name guys.

Wonder if we could see more 30 year-olds signing 12-14 year contracts that are massively frontloaded and have no intention of finishing the deal.
