2010 Draft Watch - Leafs and Everyone Else

EDIT: Stickied so draft discussion can stay out of the Leafs' Prospect Thread, which surprising should be for Leafs' prospects.

Getting another early start on what could very well be another important draft for us Leaf fans.

With as many as 6 rookies on this years team. And it being likely we don't make that big a splash in free agency. At least not enough to improve our team markedly. We will very likely be on the outside, looking in again.

So, the top players to look at for next years draft.

Taylor Hall, C. Windsor Spitfires 6-0 180lbs.

Kirill Kabanov, LW. Spartak Moscow.Jr. 6'2 176

Brandon Gormley, D. Moncton Wildcats. 6'1, 175lbs.

Vladadmir Terasenko, RW. Sibir Novosibirsk. 5'10 170lbs.

Erik Gudbranson, D. Kingston Frontenacs. 6'3 195lbs

Mikeal Granlund, C. 5'8 167 lbs. Karpat Oulu

John McFarland, C. 6'0 192 lbs. Sudbury Wolves

Teemu Pulkkinen, RW. 5'10 176lbs. Jokerit Jr. (Fin)

Tyler Toffoli, RW. 6'0 181 lbs. Ottawa 67's

Only a year to go.

So funny that this thread pops up 3 days after the 2009 draft.

A stud defenseman this time around.

I've heard this draft is also just top 6 or 7 heavy and then a massive drop off. Can anyone verify this.

I'm also really intrigued with Viktor Ohman.

Adding on to LeafErikson's list for top prospects available at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft :
Tyler Seguin and Brett Connolly

I want the Leafs to heavily pursue Hall , Fowler , Terasenko , McFarland , Connolly if they were to draft in the top 7 .

Speaking of D-men, add Cam Fowler of the USNDTp and going to Windsor next year to the list. I thought he was significantly better than Calvin Dehaan or Dylan Olsen in the World U-18.

I too vote for a top defenseman, though I must say I also want Kabanov.

..and in 2011 I want us to get Gabriel Landeskog.

Personally, I'm a guy who would rather build our defense core from free agency and trades. I would like to see us not pursue the Sedins and instead have a bad season and draft one of Taylor Hall or Kirill Kabanov. Which team wouldn't want the next Bure or Ovechkin? I'm always under the impression that a forward at a younger age has more of an impact than a defenseman. Generally defenseman take more time to develop, and I feel that the 2010 draft will be as long as Burke can wait to make this team a contender.

I'm hoping for more top end forward talent. I'm thinking either one of Hall, Kabanov, or McFarland would be a good fit for us. As much as I hate the idea of another losing season, the outcome could be very worth it.

Just 1 more year of this and we're good. Hopefully sign Nash in 2010

Kabanov.. that's depressing. My hometeam, the Mooseheads, traded the draft pick to have been able to draft him for pretty much nothing.

He's officially my new favourite prospect. Normally I choose them by their favourite food, but, this is just as scientific.

I hpoe we finish in the bottom five because I'd like to see John McFarland in blue and white.

He's a Toronto kid, a strong skater with good size and he owns what one scout called "one of the best shots he's ever seen".

McFarland is a Richmond Hill kid.

:-)

A good comparison... think of a North American Peter Forsberg.

A miserable SOB.

Well, the last version of the thread would be only a couple pages back. We got all the way to version 8 I think. Anyway, lets see if we can break that record, and go for 15 threads on the 2010 draft.

I was hoping to see what people were thinking a year ago about the 2009 draft. I love when people make bold, confident statements and then are proven wrong. Did anyone mention Kadri?
