He looks slow and old and the best thing he did for the jackets was reject their offer and flee to Denver (and accept less than the jackets offered). Foote turned into RJ Umberger who scored 26 goals for the jackets!

The Rangers are going to be up HARD against the cap the season after next, It's gonna be buyout central and Sather will flee the sinking ship.

Add Vandermeer at 2.3 and Sarich at 3.5
Add Avery at 3.875 (although it's shared between DAL and NYR)
Add Georges Laraque at 1.5
Add Hannan at 4.5
Add Schaefer at 2.1

I could go on but that would require some work...

Pascal the rascal Dupuis is getting paid 1.4million but he also put up 12 goals and 16 assists as a 4th line player for the majority of the season. Wayne Primeau was a bad investment at that same price, you are correct on that in terms of someone else on that list that makes the same as Pascal does. I would take Pascal over Taylor Pyatt, or how about Mats Sundin. He made 5million to put up the same amount of points as a 4th liner on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

1.4million wasted on Pascal the rascal? No sir.

Seriously, put George Laraque at 1.5m/2 years in the Habs list.

Add DiPietro and Yashin. Yes, Yashin...the worse contract in all of the NHL considering he still has a sizeable cap hit and hasn't played in the NHL in quite some time...

Minnesota
Pierre-Marc Bouchard (4.080 for 5 yrs) - He was paid based on potential yes. He could very well make this contract a steal. But so far, he has become a perimeter player, skating around the outside of the offensive zone, doing fancy stickwork and passing, but never shooting or amounting to any points. His career high of 63 points was when he paired off with Brian Rolston and his slapper. All he did was pass it to Rolston. Now that he no longer has a shooter to rely on, his still passes...

Kim Johnsson (4.850 for 4 yrs) Very good d-man. Plays like a #1-2 guy for the Wild. But while he does kill ice time, play against top players, move the puck up the ice well, he was never a top shutdown D-man and he has never put up the points expected. While he plays very well, he never lived up to his expectations of providing offense for the Wild and his 4.850 contract handcuffs the Wild

Marek Zidlicky (3.350 1 yr remaining) - He became the offensive d-man the Wild wanted, but he forgot how to play in his own end. With that, is 3.350 worth paying an offensive d-man who is a liability in his own zone?

Schultz's and Backstrom's contracts are fine.

For the Devils, the bad contracts go:

Pandolfo

Rolston
Salvador
Zubrus

Pandolfo is at the top of the list because he literally contributes nothing to the team. Paying 2.5mil for a guy who was barely the 13th forward for stretches of time last year is pathetic.

Rolston has a big hit and can't come off the books but at least he brings something to the table. He was injured last year so I give him a bit of a pass, and if we find someone to feed him the puck on the PP more, like Bouchard did in Minnesota, he's going to help us even more on that front.

Salvador's contract is just too long and a little too expensive for what he brings. We already have Colin White, after all.

Zubrus brings needed physicality, is quite good on defense, and generally does a good job, he's just not a 2nd line center. For a very good 3rd liner, I would rather be paying down around 2-2.5mil. 3.4mil a year until 12/13 is just too much for too long. He's not ineffective, however, just too expensive.

Add Kariya for St. Louis. Luckily there's only one year left at $6M.

25.875 tied up in 4 players?
isn't that almost half of the cap space?

Are you talking about DiPietro? If so, is this a joke or are you serious?

He's 28 before the season starts and he has had about 8 surgeries on his knees plus quite a few concussions. He wont even play most of this season.

So when exactly will he begin to "slowly" become one of the best goaltenders in the league? Hopefully "slowly" isnt too slow or he might age himself out before he gets there.

I would say that Vanek at upwards of $7 million a year is questionable, to say the least.

But how is Cheechoo at $3 million a year or Eaves at $1.4 million a year a bad deal? I doubt you could find many better players with contracts like that.

I don't know how Kelly and Fisher are definitively bad contracts.

I mean, how much are players like them supposed to make? They are both slightly overpaid, but hardly horrible in my opinion...

If we're basing this solely on last season, I guess you're right.

I personally like Pascal he's a very good 4th liner and a speedster(I think..), but he was requested by others to go up on the board so I followed instructions.

We'll just wait for that to happen. At this point it's a bad contract.

Patrice Bergeron is $250,000 off from being tied for the 2nd highest paid player on the team(otherwise he's marginally 3rd).

He put 8G-39points in 64gp, playing 3rd line. I don't care how good Bergeron is defensively, you don't pay a player 4.75M to play on your 3rd line and put up 39pts on the 2nd most offensive team in the league.

Let him come back, underrated in your opinion, and prove himself and then I'll take him off this list.

I'm no Bruins fan and am not a close follower of the team, but didn't Bergeron put up those numbers playing with limited ice time and little (no?) PP time?

Not to mention that most NHL teams would love to have Bergeron at that contract.

Isn't this list a community effort? Or do you just make the decisions for us?
