Given our defense and goaltending, we need to score an average of five goals per game.

$1.25 million? Good god.

There was no reason to sign him for much more than his qualifying offer, instead, his salary is nearly doubled.

How did negotiations go?

Sherman: Hello?
Agent: We want $1.25 million
Sherman: Pleasure doing business with you.

This is what we get for having a bean counter for a GM.

Sherman: I was going to give you 2, but 1.25 will do.

Nobody likes the defense? Salei, Hannan, Liles, foote, possibly a young guy like Shattenkirk? Nothing? Where would you place that defense in a 30 team league?

How about Hejduk, Smyth and Stastny? Where would you place that line in a 30 team league?

I'm not saying they are a playoff team 100% but I think they are closer than people think. Remember the only difference from their playoff finish 2 years ago and their 28th place finish this season is Peter Forsberg, Jose Theodore and health. Even the season they finished in 8th in the west they had a ton of injuries.

Peter Budaj Re-signs With Avalanche

DENVER POST: reports the Colorado Avalanche have re-signed goaltender Peter Budaj to a one-year, $1.25 million contract. The Avalanche are still awaiting word from Swedish goalie Jonas Gustavsson but if they're unable to sign him will look toward this summer's UFA market.

Terrible goalie, off year, or just a product of the weak Av's D? I can't say for sure, but I remember reporters just raving about 'boo-die' a few years back.

What's the lowdown here... is the price 'right' for what he brings?

Combination of all three. Budaj isn't terrible, but he isn't nearly consistent enough to be a starter either. He will be a solid backup in the NHL.

But he's probably been overpaid by about $300k.

I beleive that's alittle to much money ($1,250,000), for him expecialy if he's going to be the back up.
