They don't want him RIGHT now. Murray & Melnyk are going to wait it out through free agency & wait for a fair deal OR make him play

Sigh. People are dumb.

Let me put this in words the writer of the article will understand:

Joey walks into the store and sees something he likes. He says, "I'll give you $5 for it."

Bob, the owner of the store says, I'm sorry, I just can't let you have it for less than $50."

Joey says, "Well Bob, you see, I happen to know that in a few days, Sergio down the street will have a replica available for $10."

Bob, "Well, if you want the replica, that's fine, but you're not getting the real thing for less than $50."

Joey then says, "Well, I'll wait and see what the replica looks like."

The local media comes to ask Bob about the exciting piece he has for sale in the window... They ask if anyone has offered to buy it, because it doesn't have a price tag on it. Bob responds, "Thus far, I've received no offers for it."

-=-=-

This is basically what has happened thus far. That said, the above scenario does not mean nobody WANTS the item, it just means nobody currently is willing to pay the price.

Because no team wants to give up 3-4 solid players for one star...

Basically, from reports, he wants a top 4 d, 2 top 6 forwards and a first, or good prospect. F that.

Lots of teams want Heatley.

But it's pretty clear no one wants him at the price that's being asked.

That may be.

However, that's very DIFFERENT statement than "nobody wants him".

Plenty of teams want him. No team (seemingly) wants to pay his price.

I don't think that's the problem. Everyone wants players with those stats, but the person that comes with the talent is what they don't want. That compiled with having to give up a lot to get a great talent... makes it difficult.

I read somewhere LA has lost interest b/c of his attitude.

He'll stay with the Sens. Another 100 point season probably.

yep....nobody wants to trade the assets in terms of personnel...then pay $7.5M in real dollars. That's a steep, steep price.

Ottawa is going to have to give him away if they want him off the team, because nobody is dumb enough to pay the price in terms of assets and dollars.

Nobody wants to take on a $7.5 million contract with 4 more years to go. Nobody wants a player who has had "issues" with his last 2 coaches, and who asked to be traded from his last 2 teams. Especially after just signing a lengthy contract with an NTC.

The Sens basically have a choice of keeping their inevitable locker-room distraction and give up on the coming season (per the article), or they can take a bath to get rid of their problem to one of the few teams with cap space and who are desperate for a scoring forward. In this case, that means teams like Columbus, Florida, and Edmonton. And if Dany doesn't want to go to a team like that, or if Melnyk doesn't want to take a major bath on what they get in return, well then I'm sure 29 other teams in the NHL will love to watch the Senators season implode and hopefully give those other teams a better chance at the playoffs.

Now if this was a 50-goal scorer like Kovalchuk, who wasn't a distraction, and who hadn't asked for a trade, but was being offered for financial reasons... well then you might see some offers of the level Sens fans are hoping for. But Heatley isn't Kovalchuk and the situation is very different.

It would be wise to wait until the season and when he bags 10 goals in the first 5 games someone will come knocking.

Who can blame them, simply because he asked for trade's everytime before he does get traded, teams dont want to be stuck like we are right now.

There's 29 other teams in the league and only a finite number of attractive UFA options. One or more are going to inevitably strike out, get desperate, and take another look at Heatley.

Well, there's the salary you have to pay the player and his high cap, in a cap world, after a sub-par production year.

There's the reportedly steep asking price from Murray in assets.

There is the fact he's sought a trade twice. After going to all the trouble to acquire him, there is no guarantee he won't do it again. This is now a player about whom teams wonder if there is an attitude problem. Would the attitude disappear, or would that be inherited by his new team? Is he flexible enough to be coached or is, 'go out and score as many goals as you can; take all the ice time you need,' the only coaching he's liable to follow?

Teams value Heatley, but how much, given all the above? It will be a challenge for Murray to figure out how to maximize value for his asset.

It would be amusing to me if he reconciles with the team, ends up scoring 60 goals next year & everyone comes knocking, but now, nobodies home.

Assuming that Heatley will consider playing for that team, they can afford the $7.5M long term and still resign their own core players, and they have a ton of young proven NHL talent that OTT is looking for.

Can anyone think of a trade that had as much talent as OTT is apparently asking for? The only one I can think of is the Tkachuk deal to STL when they sent Handzus, Taffe, Nagy & 1st rounder. Anyone else come up with a bigger package for one forward?

haha, so now it's 60 goals? By the end of the week when Ottawa has paid the 4M, they're gonna say to teams "Pay up or else you'll just have to watch him score 110 goals for us".

Only 110? I had him down for 125.
