Well take the Sharks out of the Heatley sweepstakes...

That article had him signing a 2 year deal for like 9 million or something. That rumor was never confirmed.

I like this deal.

Good to see him officially signed, and at a better number than previously rumored. It was rumored as 2 years, 9 million two weeks ago, for a $4.5 million cap hit. This is much more cap friendly for the cap strained Sharks.

Why..? The asking price is likely Marleau (6.3M) or Michalek (4.3M) ++ anyways, and even with this signing the Sharks still have close to 7M in cap room with Clowe, and Goc to resign as well as a backup goaltender.

good deal for the sharks. very interested to see how things shake down out there over the next few days with wilson hinting at a decent-sized roster shakeup.

he said that 6-8 roster spots might change, but that was almost to be expected (Grier, Boucher, Huskins, Goc, Moen, Clowe or Cheechoo, Plihal). Even pulling up youngsters could change the bottom lines and still have the top 6 in tact (depending on the Clowe or Cheechoo situation)

Goc isn't coming back.

This is a great signing. I think a lot of UFA defenseman are going to be sorely disappointed with the offering prices this year.

Solid signing for the Sharks. Glad to see Blake return for another year. He will continue to help that blueline as well as bring leadership next year.

He signed at a discount because he wanted to play in San Jose. Good signing for DW and the Sharks.

Well it's literally a paycut from his $5 million last year, and his play last season probably didn't warrant a paycut that large, but considering his age and potential decline it's probably close to what he should be making or a bit of a discount.

This.

With the season he had he could have pointed out players making more. I think he would have gotten up to 4.5, give or take, on the open market (I think he is worth around 4 given age and uncertainty of injury etc.)

Well his cap hit was 5mil, i think 3.5 for Blake is very good.
